  1. Iggy's version of "Something Wild" before John Hiatt's.
  2. ^^^ Speaking of Nazareth (words I've never typed before), I heard their version of "Love Hurts" before The Everly Brother's..
  3. ^^ Jim DeRogatis had Schmilco ranked #30th for 2016. So if Schmilco was a college football team, they would be playing in the Camping World Independence Bowl.
  4. Ike & Tina Turner's cover of "Proud Mary" written by John Fogerty (CCR).
  5. Three Dog Night's version of "Mama Told Me Not to Come" written by Randy Newman.
  6. The first concert I took the whole family to was They Might Be Giants at the Vic in Chicago. It was a 13 and over show. When we got to the front of the line, the guy asked to see ID's. Two of kids didn't have ID's and it took me around 10 minutes to explain that 13 and 14 year olds don't have ID's that show their birth dates!! After he spoke to his supervisor and I assured him that I was their father and they wouldn't cause any problems, he relented and let the whole family in. We had a gas!
  7. I almost forgot this one. I saw The Kinks play in Champaign, IL in 1980 (maybe 1981). The opening act was a band called Johnny Cougar and the Zone. They sucked. Johnny Cougar was aping Springsteen and failing miserably at it. Two years (or so) later, Johnny Cougar changed his stage name to John Cougar Mellencamp (and subsequently dropped the whole "Cougar" nonsense) and became the next big thing -- though I've never been much of a fan of his.
  8. Fables Of The Reconstruction is also a great record. And so is Document IMO (sorry PT). Really no way of getting around the argument that R.E.M. was one of the greatest American bands ever.
  9. I've been watching Goliath on Amazon. Great cast (Billy Bob Thornton, William Hurt, Maria Bello etc), but it's a little too cliché-ridden for me.
  10. Winston, I'm happy to make you an honorary member of the Chez family for the evening! I'll be there up front with my wife and four kids.
  11. Alejandro Escovedo -- City Winery Chicago Courtney Barnett -- The Riv Chicago Handsome Family -- Old Town School of Folk Music Chicago Iggy Pop --Chicago Theater Jesse Malin -- City Winery Nashville The Who -- United Center, Chicago Mike Cooley -- City Winery Chicago Like Winston, the best for me is yet to come -- The Waco Brothers @ Schubas on 12/29/16.
  12. ^^^ That should be a great show. I found out about Jesse Malin about a year ago from a guy I was sitting next to at an Alejandro Escovedo show so its funny (to me) to see them on the same bill.
