Braun had one of the best rookie seasons ever. Tulowitzki had a nice campaign, and would be very deserving any other year, but what Braun did not only puts him in first for ROY, but if he had played the whole season he'd be in the MVP race.

I'm about 70 pages in. It's beautifully written. Captures childhood thus far in amazingly subtle detail. I can't tell if books like this inspire me as a writer or just make me frustrated that I'll never do anything as good. Probably a little bit of both...

Anything by Bill Bryson. Especially Mother Tongue. But anything by him. He's a treat.

I'm saying, as things stand they don't look very good going into next season. They've got a sure thing stud in Wright, but there's question marks all around him. You don't know what to expect from any of those guys. If they can go out and pick up Willis and another good starter, maybe that'll change, but that team needs a serious overhaul soon. They should've won it lastyear, that was their only shot, really.

So, last year Willie's a genius. Last year, Willie had the best bullpen in the league. This year, with many of the same guys, he's an awful manager and his bullpen is shitty. Maybe it's because they didn't know enough to anticipate a huge dropoff from Delgado, Alou and Beltran's pretty predictable injury problems, Jose Reyes somewhat dissappointing season, and a patchwork rotation that over performed for 4 out of the 6 months of the season and then came back to earth when it mattered most.
