  1. At least he's honest and modest about making mistakes. I think this makes him a pretty likable jerk. In fact, in contrast to Taylor Swift, I prefer the fragile egotistic humanity in Kanye West over the cold plastic siren of Taylor Swift. But that's for another thread. Are there any skits on this album?

The closest thing is a little bit from Chris Rock at the end of one song, but it's at least attempted to work into the theme of a song.

Honestly, he seems contrite about his worst two moments, the Taylor Swift thing and the Bush thing. There seems to be a maturity about him, at least more so than before. I think he recognizes that he really hurt his image.

I've listened to it through a few times. It's really good. God damn. "Runaway" is amazing.

  2. It probably should've been Alexei Ramirez, eh? Kind of funny, since he was statistically a very bad 2B. He always had the physical tools, but this year he seemed to have better concentration.

Yeah. It might just be a situation where his physical tools are more suited to SS, as well. Who knows.

Also important to keep in mind that defensive statistics are prone to yearly fluctuation just like offensive numbers, so he may regress.

  3. But Keith Olbermann is not a journalist, he's a commentator. Everyone knows his politics, just as they do Pat Buchanan's, Joe Scarborough's, Karl Rove's, Sean Hannity's, etc., all of whom donate to Republican candidates. I don't see any conflict there as long as they are open about it.

I would say the difference is that Olbermann is used by MSNBC as an anchor for stuff like election night and debate coverage. In that context, he is not supposed to be a commentator, he is supposed to be a reporter/moderator.

Personally, I have no problem with them doing this to him as long as the policy is enforced across the board.

  4. I don't think you can compare them at 18 months and say Bush had it harder. Obama has been fought tooth and nail since before he even took office. His citizenship has been called into question, people think he's a secret muslim, people have said he legitimately dislikes the country, that he is a racist; these aren't charges made by the fringe, this is stuff being bandied about on the Most Trusted Name In News ©.

He was called a socialist who is a bigger threat to America than Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin. And not by a crazy extremist on the fringe, but by one of the front runners for the 2012 Republican Nomination.

What Bush faced in terms of criticism was unlike what Obama has faced. I don't think an argument can be made any other way. He has faced a stiff and dedicate opposition from the Republican establishment since before he took office, and he has faced a GOP that hasn't budged even an inch in his entire time in office.

  5. All I said about Palin is that her attackers should be ashamed of themselves.

    Which ones?

The ones who imply or insist that Trig is not actually her son? The ones who attack her family? Sure. But the same should go for people who believe ridiculous conspiracies about any candidate, or people who attack Barney Frank for being gay, or people who attack the way Nancy Pelosi looks, or the people who criticize Obama's family.

Now the people who criticize her extreme political and personal views and experience and lack of qualification to be a candidate for the highest office in our nation? To me, that's all fair game.

And to imply, as you have done, that Obama has somehow had it easier as far as criticism goes than Bush is just ridiculous.

  6. After 52 shots to left and left-center, 1 homer to dead center, Jose Bautista's 54th round tripper was his first opposite-field home run all season. That dude is playing golf. Last week Bautista hit a foul ball completely out of the Rogers Centre, which is damned hard to do.

According to FanGraphs.com, that's the first opposite field homer of his career.
