  1. Tonight I happen to be listening to Neil's show from Santa Barbara, CA - October 10, 2015 - it does sound pretty good - great tape. I can't say he washed up from a live/concert stand point.

Still can't into MMJ, though - after a few attempts.

Check out the live dvd "Okonokos". Think the guitar player would impress you maybe. For me MMJ are way more a live thing than studio. I thought the songs from Neil's new album were much better live, too. I've got the Santa Barbara show & thought the tape was real good. The one from the LA Forum is excellent & Eugene, OR looks promising. Neil brings out the Hateful Fred fans & with them their excellent concert taping gear. I wish more bands would take a cue from the Roadcase concept. I  bought the Redmond, WA show & was real pleased about how it sounded.

  2. I saw Neil with POTR recently in Seattle. Have several show downloads from the west coast tour. This band is seriously mighty. Neil was busting out songs he hadn't played in 40 years ("Vampire Blues", "Time Fades Away" to name a few). It was as good as the Wilco show I saw 2 months earlier. I'm listening to the show I went to now. An unbelievable 27 minute "Down by the River". Setlists were changing nightly. Promise of the Real seem to have reenergized Neil & got him a little out of his comfort zone. The were doing 2.5 to 3 hour shows. The encore in Seattle was "Cinnamon Girl" followed by "F'n Up". What more could you ask for? Also got "Walk On" "& Everybody Knows This is Nowhere". This was the best non Crazy Horse Neil show I've seen. Promise of the Real are really, really good. Pretty sure Jeff would be down with this concept! :guitar

  3. I've got an idea for an excellent tour next summmer. It would be an all day/night affair with everyone doing nice, long sets. Working title "Excellent Songs With Guitar". Here's my proposed lineup.:
    1. Neil Young with Promise Of The Real
    2. Wilco
    3. Drive-By Truckers
    4. My Morning Jacket

    What do you think? :)

  4. Both of the Tweedy shows (Roadcase #34&35) sound excellent.  So if you enjoyed the Tweedy record and a bit of Jeff solo in the middle, then either show would be a good choice.  If you want to do for sheer diversity then either the Winterlude Chciago bundle or the Port Chester bundle is well worth the money.  I've also been listening to the Solid Sound Wilco full acoustic set (Roadcase #47) a lot recently.

Thanks! I've got #47. Pretty cool. I've heard an audience tape of the Notorious Wilco Bros. show & that is pretty good too.

  5. I just bought my first download from the band. The Marymoor Park show because I went to it & it was a really great show. Very Nels-centric (thanks Doug). The quality of the recording is outstanding. Anybody have any recommendations of other shows that the band is selling? @ $9 a pop sadly have to be a little picky but want to get some more. Thanks  :guitar

  6. He might tell you differently, since he was actually trying to tune his Jazzmaster *during* the solo and eventually just had to switch it out. He also had to do the same on Via Chicago one song earlier.

That said, it did seem like a longer-than-usual solo on IG and I'm always amazed by Nels' ability to add something new almost every night.

I caught the tuning thing. I just thought that it added something really cool & different to the song. Some new places. I could see Jeff & Pat watching him & they seemed amazed. I generally like live music more because for me the interesting stuff comes out of problems. I'm might get killed for this here but I've heard (particularly later versions) "Impossible" kind of remind me of "Hotel California" in some ways. Not necessarily a bad thing but Tuesday was way more interesting. I've been into Wilco a real long time & seen them a lot. Probably 1 of my 3 favorite band/performers. The other 2 being Flaming Lips & Neil Finn. I was in the music biz for 25 years & was looking through my cds. Found advance copies of both "AM" & "Being There". Liked them plenty back then but I really turned hardcore with "Summerteeth". Kind of shy, so just have started posting here. The show Tuesday wasn't the best I've seen the band but it was right up there. Nels blows me away. In some ways he reminds me of Jeff Beck (if Beck had come up via punk rock). That is very high praise! I would put "Handshake" through "Sunken" Tuesday up against anything I have ever seen live in hundreds of concerts. I really enjoyed the show. PS: the advance cd of "AM" has xerox artwork & "Being There" is in a kind of generic cardboard sleeve. Glad I still have them!

  7. My friend bailed out on me & I have an extra reserved seat ticket. Hoping to get the $60 I paid for it (I'll eat the service charge). Would have to meet at the show, as the tickets will be at will call. Row 24, Section B on the aisle. Please contact me at crholmstrom7@gmail.com. Am looking forward to the show! :)
