I bought the download of the 2nd Brooklyn show. Very nice! I wanted "Space Oddity" & went with night 2 because of the setlist. "Spiders" was the push over the cliff for me. As much as I hate buying downloads, I've bought a few of the Roadcase shows & have not been disappointed. @ $9, the price is realistic. Still would prefer cd but understand the economics. Happy that the band is putting out hi quality live recordings. BTW, "Space Oddity" is stellar!

I'm debating on seeing them. If the setlist looks good after night one I'll probably buy a ticket. Please write your review once the shows over. I have never seen him Live before
I will write a review for sure. You know, Iggy is 68 now. If you've never seen him, you should go if you can get tickets. He is legendary & puts on an incredible show. Word is he was still stage diving as of last year. His voice is still sounding real good, too.

Really liked the Long Ryders when they were current. Was somewhat less enthralled with the Coal Porters. Hope the Ryders make it up to Seattle.

Anybody else going to see Iggy & Josh Homme? I got real lucky & scored 11th row tickets for the 1st night of the tour. Post Pop Depression has leaked on the internet & its sounding like a masterpiece to me. I'm still going to buy it when it comes out next month as the quality will be better. Josh Homme & crew have done right by Iggy. I read an interview with Iggy where it sure sounds like he is going to basically retire. Based on this album, it looks like he is going out in style. The band on the tour is going to be the same on the record + a few ringers. Word is they are going to do material from Iggy's whole career with emphasis on the new material & the Berlin records. At this point, they are only doing 20 dates worldwide in cool, old theaters. I'm pretty stoked about the whole thing.

Hell's Bells - AC/DC on the "For Those About..." tour & "Thunderstruck" on the Razor's Edge tour. "Riff Raff" with Bon Scott. The boys used to open a show pretty damn strong!

Cool venue to see him. His voice isn't what it once was but he still puts on a good show & always has a stellar band. I was lucky to see Roxy on the "High Road" tour. 1 of my all time fave concerts.

GbV is back (sort of)...
http://pitchfork.com/news/63427-guided-by-voices-are-back-in-action-in-some-form/
I saw Bobby Bare Jr. open for GBV on the last tour. He was very good & I think will fit in fine. Could be a nice complement to Robert.

GBV are back and playing the sled fest in Canada so maybe you'll have another chance
Really! I thought Bob had broke up the band again. I will have to check this out.

I liked the Audi "Starman" spot.

Halftime show is over and I had previously heard only one of the songs played by Coldplay. I think that is a god thing though.

I'm down with sinusitis but made a 15 mile trek to Caveman Kitchens for some outstanding BBQ. Go Donkeys! BTW, thought Gaga was pretty good.

i saw 'em 8 or 9 times and that was always tucked into the middle of the set, it seemed. but their set lists were always all over the place.
1 GBV show I saw where Bob went over the cliff (lot of stuff ended up on the drunken rants record), Bob slurred/announced that they were going to do Bee "f***ing" Thousand in its entirety @ about 1:15 AM (closing time 2:00 AM). & by God they did most of it. Epic but no "Kicker of Elves".

"Hello There" - Cheap Trick
"Warszawa" - Bowie in 1978
"Rebel Rebel" - Bowie the last tour
"Seen Your Video" - the Replacements
"American Girl" - Tom Petty

A great musician, innovater & showman. I saw Earth Wind & Fire a few times as a teenager in the 1970's. They put on a great show & the records still sound awesome. RIP.

^^^ Agree. Sound + Vision is one of my favorite Bowie songs. There's something about the way Bowie sings the word "vision" that makes me smile every time. It has a harmonic quality to it -- like a vibrating pipe.
Blue, blue....

I got a boot of a show from the current tour that has a really nice version of "It Ain't Easy" from Ziggy Stardust. Good choice & well done!

Roger O'Donnell on keyboards has been involved off & on for a long time & the drummer has been in the band 20 years now. The current line up is pretty strong. I liked Porl Thompson plenty but really like Reeves Gabrels. Saw him with Bowie several times. Should be a great show as the Twilight Sad are pretty interesting, too.
-
The show I'm seeing is being opened by the Twilight Sad. Is that a perfect name for a band opening for the Cure or what? I noticed the start times are all early though. The Vegas show starts at 7 & many of the other shows. So, long shows aren't out of the question. Reeves Gabrels has been in the band a few years. Really like that guy. Saw him with Bowie several times.

Any other Cure fans out there? I just bought a ticket from a broker for the show @ the Cosmopolitan in Vegas in May. I have been waiting at least 25 years to see the Cure & they are about the last band I really need to see & haven't. I've been cursed with various reasons for missing them before. I've actually had tickets. It wasn't looking good for this tour either. They are skipping Seattle & playing the Sasquatch festival. Really expensive & a really long drive. I'm not in a position health wise to do a multi day festival, especially one where the lineup isn't exactly stellar for 4 days. I'm quite excited! The venue in Vegas is good (3 or 4 thousand capacity) & the sound is great. No festival short sets or curfew issues. Really looking forward to it.

I LOVE the music of the Eagles and I have never given a rat's ass about how popular or overplayed on the radio any music I like is. I don't have a problem with slickly produced and highly crafted pop music or romanticism or any of the other things Eagles get routinely criticized for.
No doubt Frey was an incredible songwriter and he (and Henley probably went along with it willingly) drove that band to rehearse and rehearse. There is a reason they were so good on the vocals and Frey being a taskmaster definitely had a lot to do with it.
This is a nice piece by Cameron Crowe http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/remembering-glenn-frey-cameron-crowe-on-eagles-teen-king-20160121
I did have a hard time watching the second half of the Eagles documentary when Frey was talking shamelessly with smug arrogance about how he deserved more money than Felder, Walsh and Schmitt. I get that Irving Azoff helped them avoid being taken advantage of financial by record companies and the music business in general, but it seems to me that Azoff and Frey and Henley took it too far when they started treating the other band members as second class citizens deserving of being hired hands, not full members of the band. Those interview sequences with Frey about the Hell Freezes Over tour and later ones is seemingly at odds with the quote from the late 70s to Crowe when he says he only wants $2 million and doesn't want the big money.
I love Frey's music with Eagles so much, but its a bummer to see what I consider to be greed infect a rock band like that.
But then I listen to this and I forget all about his less than admirable qualities. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUW_sGwMECc
Fuck, they could sing so good, but again that's what I'm talking about, you can't have that vocal blend without Meisner or Schmidt and even Felder and Walsh are in there making Glenn's songs sound fantastic. Frey and Henley could not have made the records Eagles made without the other guys in the band. They were indispensible, IMO, and should have been treated with a lot more respect.
Irving Azoff is a total mercenary. He took very good care of Henley & Frey & adequate care of the rest. Thank God they rescued Joe Walsh. Also read recently that they took care of all of Randy Meisner's medical expenses during his recent troubles. What I really disliked hugely was when they released the Eden record exclusively to Walmart. It was like f everybody else who had supported them over the years. I personally think Walmart is pretty evil from personal experience & perpetuates the lowest common denominator ethos that is taking over the US. I watched them destroy all other retail in Kodiak, Alaska. I had my biggest account there, supplying them with music & video. Now people have no choice where to shop, not that there was a lot of variety before Walmart but small & large local businesses boarded up as they couldn't compete with the prices. It was such a huge hit to my company that it in large part put us under. That was the end of my 25 years in the music biz. Not just angry with the Eagles as AC/DC did the same thing. Anyway, Azoff was a trailblazer in those sort of arrangements.

Really good 2013 BBC documentary on Showtime for free (at least now). "David Bowie - 5 years". Worth watching. The BBC does these well. I finally worked up the gumption to watch the video for "Lazarus". Stunning. I'd seen "Blackstar" but was too broke up to watch "Lazarus" until today. I haven't written here until now. Bowie was a cornerstone in my musical journey from about age 12 when I got Changesonebowie with my subscription to Creem. I never really strayed unlike some other stuff I liked. I got to briefly meet him in 1990. One of the high points in my career in the music biz. I'm still gobsmacked by the whole thing. The liver cancer thing & Glenn Frey passing with one of the reasons being RA is hitting way too close to home. Not going into details but its scary stuff. I'm still walking & working so no complaints but I'm making sure I have my affairs in order, just in case. I see Wilco covered "All the Young Dudes" in Mexico. Nice! Hope a tape comes out. Peace.

I would like to add Spoon to this list.
That would work!

As long as we're throwing out "Dream Tour Ideas", here's my choice.
4 consecutive "Evening With" shows (with no repeats over the 4 days), @the Capitol Theater for the Northeast heads. Atlanta for the Southeasterners. Dallas for the lower center of the country. Greater Los Angeles for the Southwest and Seattle for the northwest. Then 5 nights in Chicago to wrap it up.
One 200 dollar ticket gets you into all the shows in your city.
I like this idea plenty, too!

I've heard some tapes from the current tour. They are sounding pretty damn good! Pete still brings it.
