As if the continuing shitty weather wasn't awful enough, now it's actually a direct cause of a Red Sox loss. Fuck you rain!

Well I only know the singles, and trying to think of their tunes in my head, the first band I can think of is The Cars - head boppin pop. I had no idea Smith appeared on one of their songs. I'll look for it, thanks.

Can you post something of Blink-182's that shows a Cure influence? I think I've only heard the tunes of theirs influenced by The Cars.

I have an OK recording of a fantastic Fall 2002 San Diego show, which I attended. Tremendous show - open air theatre, warm Saturday night, Bob doing a number of killer covers - Neil's 'Old Man', Stones' 'Brown Sugar', Zevon's 'Mutineer', and Van's 'Carrying A Torch' along with great takes on 'Hattie Carroll', 'Bye and Bye', and 'If Not For You'....me and my lady dancing alone...one of the best nights of my life....haha, I may be partial. If anyone's interested - oh wait, do we still not have PMs?

Nice to see The Unforgettable Fire and Ultraviolet in there, but I still wish someone would smack U2 upside the head and tell them "You're fooking U2, your fans are fooking faithful, you don't need to be playing With Or Without You and Pride ad nauseum, your fans will go nuts to hear any U2 song - so fooking play Heartland and Red Hill Mining Town and Please and goddammit open with The Fooking Fly!!"

You may be too sensitive for the internet.

grateful dead - you make sweeping generalizations. Stop saying "everyone" on this board when you refer to stuff.

Do you have any suggestions for material? Some presidents don't lend themselves to parody as well as others. Bill Clinton was Bubba, George W Bush was a fucking idiot, so those two were serving it up on a platter to writers. What traits of Obama's lend themselves to one-liners? He's a nerd, for one thing. I think that could be mined a little better. Other than that....

That was great. Thanks for posting it Wendy. It's something to see the people most affected by his death talking about him.
-
When you look at it that way, what could possibly not be empty rhetoric?

I don't know.

Like 'Barack The Magic Negro'?

I'm not so sure he's fucking around. From the 2001 RS interview.

I bet this would make ol' Bobby grin.

Yes. What a waste of the two leads' performances, that. I'd been dismissing Sugar based on Half Nelson, actually. Good to hear your review.

I think this is crazy talk.

The AL East is shaping up nicely.

Solace - I know you asked for PMs, but it seems this thread will be good for concerns and whatnot. I noticed that external links that people post load in the same tab, thus taking the user away from VC. This didn't happen before, IIRC. It kinda sucks. Thanks for your time - Sir Stewart. -
I was flipping channels yesterday morning driving home from Montreal and was delighted to find 'Far, Far Away' - I made a note to mention it in the 'Wilco heard when you're out and about' thread. Then the DJ said "that was Wilco, featuring Jay Walter Bennett" and I knew that couldn't be good... Summerteeth got me into Wilco - I saw them in April and October of that year, and to me at the time, the band was Jay's almost as much as it was Jeff's. I'll never forget the two of them messily toppling over each other onstage as they wrapped up the encore of 'Outta Site' like a couple of puppies.

Right on. The YHF demos are maybe my favorite Wilco stuff. Although I'm still not clear on the difference between the demos and the 'engineer' demos collections...
