By putting the clippy-style capos on upside down, you can leave the bottom E open. It's cool. On the 2nd fret you can play an E with the D voicing - it's kind of like playing in drop D, but in the key of E instead (kind of like the solo Sunken Treasure). On the 4th fret you can play E in a C voicing and get some cool maj7s and harmonics. I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but it's a start.
