  1. To me, HTTT is Radiohead's AGIB: coming on the heels of an amazing album (grouping Kid A & Amnesiac as one album here) makes it feel slightly underwhelming. Also, both have a few questionable songs and run a good fifteen minutes too long. Nevertheless, both are good if not great albums, but to each his own, I guess.

  2. let me guess

    a. you have yet to listen to the album from beginning to end without distractions

    b. you've only skimmed the album and not devoted much attention

    c. you did both A & B, but only once or twice

Let's just get this out of the way:

Look folks. The truth is todays bands absolutely SUCK compared to the 60's and 70's greats. Those giants would turn out masterpieces every two years, sometimes every year. Today we get these ok records every 3-4 years. Thom Yorke and his Pro Tools rig painstakingly craft songs for years on end because they can't play properly. Led Zepplin or Pink Floyd could shit out an album and have it be musically superior, and do it on a regular basis. There's a real lack of ROCK missing from the new "canon". It's like everyone took wimpy pills or something. Even the harder rock bands lack dynamic range with power. Shit, the 70's folk bands could lay it down heavier.

And in terms of live performances, Wilco and Radiohead get their tails kicked by bands like the Flaming Lips and the Drive By Truckers.

The Lips and Truckers are INCREDIBLE live shows, and they also make fantastic studio records. They are a real throwback to the true greats of the 60's and 70's.

    End thread.

  3. Wow. I guess it is mandated.
All of Pixar Animation's feature films include Ratzenberger, who has become something of a "good luck charm" to the studio (and, according to Andrew Stanton, Pixar actually has a rule stating that Ratzenberger must be in all Pixar films).
  4. Definitly look for "Revolution in the Head" by Ian Macdonald, it goes song by song through the beatles catalog and it is easily the most interesting and informative accounts that I have read.

    Seconded.

VW and Wilco create music and advertising first

1 Jun 2007 : In a new form of music/promotion/communications, the band Wilco's recently released album Sky Blue Sky is the soundtrack to Volkswagen's latest TV campaign. This new form of marketing collaboration has the creative forces of Wilco and VW combining to launch both an album and a VW campaign in the same week (May 22nd). The partnership spans multiple commercials and multiple songs, with the first song being "The Thanks I Get." The Wilco Volkswagen union will run for the summer and all songs can be streamed on vw.com. It's also the first-ever licensing deal for Wilco.
