The National - Alligator
Still prefer this a bit over SSFDL.

i totally do the imaginary soundtrack thing. i even have one for my thesis novel.
Let's hear it.
-
Woah son, put down the crack pipe.....
This never gets old.
-
Another great band that's about to release a new album. Lots of fans here too I seem to recall.
-
Rereading this thread reminded me: where's Andrew?!
Oh, and answer to the thread title: Spinal Tap - Lick My Love Pump
-
Oh, I played it already earlier, excellent stuff for sure. Really hard for me to pick the best out of aSoS, GCT, KTM and GF (I know GF is not that highly regarded among the fans, but I love it). I can't wait for the new one Stroke Their Brains/It's Frightening/Trouble Minx or whatever it will be called.

Orkie... More like Dorkie!

Round two:

I just hope nobody mentions Pink Floyd...

Today's a Spoon day.

Very good album indeed.

It is tough to actually attempt to rank them.
...
Oh, I must be high.
-
Aw, come on...
You will have to explain this.

AM is the first for sure, then it gets hazy, but I think this is correct:
BT
ST
YHF
AGIB
SBS
-
And I don't really think of live albums as a part of any artist's canon, but I guess ya got me there.
Unless it's previously unreleased material, like Neil Young's Time Fades Away, right?
-
If anything has surprised me this week, it's your professed love of SBS. But I'm in the same boat: Like you, I was generally dismayed with the new material, but I've been won over. The first few listens were hampered by the natural desire to hear it in context of their previous albums--it's tough to isolate and ignore that baggage--but after spending considerable time with SBS, it's easier now to hear it for what it is, rather than for what I had been hoping it would be.
Not that anybody's interested or anything, but I'm in the same boat, too. It's so much better than I expected.
-
I see your point - they are in a different context than we usually hear them.
Yep, I just wish he'd play Out On The Weekend and Harvest more live, because those songs have really been unfairly overshadowed by Old Man and Heart Of Gold, I think.
The same could be said for Down By The River - how many times have you heard that? It's a real treat as an acoustic number. Not that the electric version doesn't totally destroy usually.
Ever hear The Indigo Girls version? That I have not heard, sir.
-
Although I'm not the biggest fan of Harvest either, these 1971 solo versions are usually the definitive versions for me. Especially A Man Needs A Maid. Oh, and There's A World is probably the worst Neil Young song.
-
Bad Fog Of Loneliness was only on the DVD, but yeah, great song. And OTWH has always been one of my favorite songs too. I like Richie Furay's vocals on BS Again, but it's so much better when Neil sings it himself.
-
i still dont understand it. if you rank them according to their release dates, they CANT change, if u rank them according to how good you think they are, they CAN change. you cant do both.
maybe im stupid, but please explain this to me.
This thread never fails to deliver.
