  1.

looking at the comments section on thrashers, it seems the preview disk has brought up more issues involving lack of interaction that neil was waiting for and again, lack of some major content from this period. oh well.

just finished reading shakey again. prolly the last time. seems to me, the major theme of the book is NIGHTMARE. "we recorded, it was a nightmare. we toured, it was a nightmare. we mixed the live disc, it was a nightmare." not to mention, neil is a total asshole. bruce springsteen seems to be ae guy. dylan's just a plain mystery.

any word on an update for shakey?

  2. That's not really my trip anymore. I don't usually bother with such things, unless I can help answer a question with a previous thread that seems to cover what the new thread is about.

    1. It's really the job of the people who run this place to do such things. When some of the inmates run the asylum, the other inmates who don't run the asylum, get upset.

    2. Most new people are not really going to know about or utilize the search function. Some people just don't give a shit. Some people give a shit too much.

    3. Sometimes, people just want attention. So they will start new threads to promote themselves, and give their reviews of things.

    4. I think if someone has that much stuff to unleash on the world, they should start a blog.

    5. It Takes a Village Idiot: The Jerks of Online Forums.

well said. i was just one of your converts a few years back:)

  3. Is she in the band? I thought she was just the 'guest start'..

she is not the 'guest start'...she is in the band. she will be playing laptop and clarinet. should be interesting :stunned

  4. I am really surprised as well. I was convinced that Good Eye would be awesome live.. like a modern-day Ramrod. I also would've expected him to open up the encores with The Last Carnival in the same way he did with City of Ruins on the Rising tour. At the very least, I'm pleased this isn't a rehash of the Magic tour. There are definitely distinctive sections of the set and their choice of openers and closers seem to be working really well

Oh, and Gypsy Biker rules. I didn't see it live, so I can't attest to its quality, or lack of in concert, but the record version is great.

good eye would be a kick ass opener!

  5. comparing i threw it all away with life is hard is laughable to say the least.

BTW you might want to you that neat spell check feature, this is coming from someone who long ignored it. Also do you get high and then choose to post or do you decide you want to post so you get high.

    A-Man?

  6. The misstep of Outlaw Pete as the opening track will be discussed for decades. At best it should be buried in the 6 to 8 slot, without the expectations of the opening track. It says a lot that he is not opening the show with a new tune (like The Rising or Radio Nowhere) and only playing 3 or 4 new songs a night. He'd jam 6 or 7 Magic songs at us, whether they worked or not. Remember Devil's Arcade or Gypsy Biker?

true, he played everything off magic. i can't believe he isn't even doing lucky day.

  7. Everyone has a special attachment to the time that they "came of age" or whatever, but I feel compelled to say that those of us who were in HS during the latter half of the '70s really got away with it - what an amazing time to be a young adult. Of course, I am so thankful that my kids weren't able to emulate me to that extreme. :lol

i have no attachment to the 80s, which is when i grew up. the 80s blew assss! bad music, bad hair, bad production values. everything just went to shit. the 90s were a little bit better. (80-82 weren't too bad, it was still the 70s as it was still the 80s until 93)

  8. I was just thinking of Boston the other day. I liked and still like their first album. It brings back a lot of memories when I hear it. That was my high school days and a bunch of albums from that era I hear them today as if it were 30+ years ago. BOC, Ted Nugent, druggy Aerosmith, Journey, KISS, Van Halen, Cheap Trick, Schenker era UFO & Scorpions etc
  9. Maybe it's for sentimental reasons (it came out when I was 10 yrs old and I wore it out), but I break out Third Stage about once a year and the guitar tones still give me goosebumps. Especially in "We're Ready" , "My Destination" and "To Be a Man".

yes, those are great songs. too bad amanda was overplayed. it's not too bad either.

  10. >wienberg's kid is the shit. his drum fills are total rock and roll!

    >i also sat behind the stage by the new keyboard dude. some one needs to tell that dude to focus on the keys and not trying to get the crowd to stand up. he just acted like a cheesy cheerleader the whole time and hardly played an notes on the keys. if bruce only knew!

    >fyi-my opinion of working on a dream as changed a bit. it's about half good. listening to magic, one can see that bruce was really scraping the bottom for some of the dream tunes.

I absolutely agree with all of that. Funny you say that about the new keys guy. I thought that during the show and afterward a friend said, "How about less whooping it up and more playing. He hasn't been there long enough to earn the right to get away with that."

And about 4 or 5 of the new tunes are very good, with a few clunkers. Queen of the Supermarket is good music but cringeworthy lyrics. Outlaw Pete is just a drag. But Kingdom of Days and Dream sounded terrific.

your friend was right on. it was cool to see his FAT book of songs though.

i'm with you on dream. prolly could have put half of magic and half of dream together to make one killer album. i'll probably warm up to dream though.

outlaw pete-major mis-step. should have been the bonus track, not the wrestler

    lucky day, dream-both great songs

queen-kind of good, but bad bad lyrics. as you said, cringe

    what love can do-toss off

this life-the beach boy songs on magic are much much better

tomorrow never knows-fun, but not essential

    life itself-bad

    surprise-great and fun.

    last carnival-classic latter day bruce

    wrestler-classic latter day bruce

kingdom of days-good but a bit cheesy

    good eye-love it!

  11. The first Boston album is better than most of the flavor-of-the-month hipster indie drivel championed in this forum.

probably the most important and concise statement about music these days. well said.

  12. Nice..I am sitting behind the stage at Nassau...hoping for an E Street Shuffle or Blinded by the Light! :dancing

he is busting out some gems at each show it seems. we got jungleland and trapped in atlanta. the encore is pretty much the same as are some of the main setlist tunes

wienberg's kid is the shit. his drum fills are total rock and roll!

i also sat behind the stage by the new keyboard dude. some one needs to tell that dude to focus on the keys and not trying to get the crowd to stand up. he just acted like a cheesy cheerleader the whole time and hardly played an notes on the keys. if bruce only knew!

fyi-my opinion of working on a dream as changed a bit. it's about half good. listening to magic, one can see that bruce was really scraping the bottom for some of the dream tunes.

  13. the sets are actually a bit samey compared to the last tour. he's not playing much of the new album. i am really getting into working on a dream. found a little documentary on youtube about the making and it really inspired me to give the whole album a listen. very solid stuff there.

  14. I have been wondering why Nils is in the band....He usually can only be heard for like 3 songs the whole night. I think when Little Stevie left the band in the 80's and Nils came in...bruce felt bad about telling him to leave when LS came back.....who knows...I would like to see him play with Neil Young.

me too. get some of that TTN vibe back. although i could do without his twirling on stage.

  15. i like about 5 songs on here. wish there were more horns. his voice is just unlistenable at times. just so shot it pains me to listen to it. also, his blues songs are just total toss offs. usually the blues riffs are tolerable b/c the lyrics are interesting. the lyrics on this album all just love songs. i was really hoping for some real poetry here about the human condition...beyond here lies nothing, its all good, etc. i love the production though. very muddy and a nice mix between toom and mt. l&t was too crisp for me and not warm at all. mississippi is the only song i could really get into on that one. toom is a loooong album and i appreciate it as a piece of art, only a few songs blow me away...trying to get to heaven, love sick, not dark yet. i really liked modern times. the blues songs on there worked and nettie more and ain't talking were amazing.

i wonder how many more albums this guys got in him. part of me hopes we don't hear anything from him for several years only to have him come back with an all acoustic solo album of final ballads and epics at age 75.

  16. i'll gladly pay this to see him, but i can see how some people would be turned off by the price. the fact that its GA makes it seem more like a deal to me. it sure beats paying $150 to see the Dead from the nosebleed section.

anyone know if he plans on debuting some songs off the new record during the summer tour?

there is no reason why it should cost any more than $20 to see a band. the reason the prices are so high is because YOU still pay them. $150 to see the dead without garcia. that's insane!

the thing about these nostalgia acts is that no one goes to see a performance of music anymore. instead, one goes to see the performer. i went to see springsteen last night. bought at ticket outside for $20. got a good seat too. he did perform well, but a lot of the show was seeing bruce do his 'bruce' things. not worth the cheapest ticket of $97, before charges.

stop making these assholes rich! there's no need for anyone of these guys to make more than $100,000 per year. maybe then they'd really perform well and put out solid material. neil young, i'm thinking about you.

  17. Dial up?

no, dsl and i'm not a member of any of the special places.

so far i am really loving this. it's def gonna be a grower lots of texture to enjoy on repeated listens. i love the cover too. can't seem to upload it here though.

  18. went to atlanta show last night. got in for $20 just like last year. sat behind the stage in an empty row. rough start, but got better with slower songs. highlights were tom joad, jungle land, lonesome day, radio nowhere. i just love some of the newer songs.

question-why is nils lofgren in this band. he looks like such a dork running around on stage. also, they don't need to keyboards or back up singers. fyi, max weinbergs son ROCKED on the drums and bruce was just lovin' playing with him.
