Well, I’m livin’ in a foreign country but I’m bound to cross the line
Beauty walks a razor’s edge, someday I’ll make it mine
If I could only turn back the clock to when God and her were born
“Come in,” she said, “I’ll give you shelter from the storm”and from another song...
Oh, the Union Central is pullin’ out and the orchids are in bloom
I’ve only got me one good shirt left and it smells of stale perfume
In fourteen months I’ve only smiled once and I didn’t do it consciously
Somebody’s got to find your trail, I guess it must be up to me -
Such a wonderful book to get lost in. ^
It really is. I'm on holidays right now and although I've got lots to do around the house, I find myself returning to it for just one more chapter before the next task.

Nice pics. Great to be viewing scans of actual photographs. Now that's a rarity.
Thanks for the link.

Put this on at work today because my ipod in my pocket started playing Harness Your Hopes and it occurred to me that I hadn't listened to it in a long time.
Man, what a record. And the extra songs on the re-issue. Reminded again of what a great band they were.

The Delines - such a wonderful band to see live. A stunning set of songs which sounded beautiful.
My wife and I spoke with Willy Vlautin after the show and he was generous and humble and an all 'round good guy. He signed my copy of Northline and I left the venue a happy man.

Here is a contrary view which will make people's blood boil. Enjoy!

Oh dear. I didn't get beyond the second paragraph. I couldn't take the self-congratulatory nonsense.

I splurged on the vinyl and am really glad I did. As others here have said, the pacing and order of the songs works perfectly. With four discrete sides to choose from, I can really hone in on what fits my mood. And since the material is at times heavy and melancholy, five songs is sometimes enough. Although I did listen frequently to the songs from the summer's live recordings and as they trickled out over the last few months, it's in the context of the other songs that makes each one shine.
I'm thinking of doing the same thing even though I've already bought the CD. But I've just bought a new stylus for my turntable so...

One of the best written and most accurately descriptive reviews of Sukierae I've come across.

Some thoughts on this record after two listens:
Firstly, I am really digging this album, probably somewhat more than I expected.
It's definitely a great "car" album!
Agreed. My first listen was on a long walk at night and I came home elated. My second listen was driving through city traffic yesterday, a sunny Saturday afternoon. Beautiful. I had a great moment walking the other night. Had headphones on and I must've looked a fool because Where My Love came on and I couldn't stop laughing with the pure joy of the music whilst emitting various "Ohhh!"s and "Ahhhh"s and "Oh man!"s at how much I was taken by this song.
I'm in that phase where the tunes are becoming familiar but I'm not yet matching them up with the titles (that will come). What's the song where you can hear a snippet of what I assume is an iphone recording before it launches back into the song proper? That's a great song. There's also a song in there which reminds me of Pavement's noodling guitar lines.
Love the sounds of all the guitars on this album but especially the ever present acoustics. Jeff just has this indefineable taste in the sound of his guitars. So crisp and clear. (Whenever I'm in a music shop trying out guitars it's Mr Tweedy's guitar sounds I always have in my head). The drums are wonderfully played, prominent, but not not over-bearing. There's a woodiness and up close sound to the drums that reminds me of Levon Helm's playing. All hi hats, too. I think I've heard a ride cymbal played on maybe two songs, Slow Love being one of them. What a drum sound on this song!
Spencer is obviuosly an intelligent and creative drummer. The sounds and rhythms he brings to this record are wonderful. This is not generic drumming, it's inventive and inspiring.
A great record.

thanks for all the warm wishes, everybody. i shouldn't be surprised, but it is heartening to know that my favorite band has such wonderful people as fellow fans. wish i could have gifted two of you beautiful strangers our tickets- they're just sitting at will-call going to waste.
at least we can watch the BAM show on youtube whever we finally get home from the ER. silver linings, right?
Good wishes to you, man. Hope everything turns out OK.

Bob Dylan (last night).
A lot better than I thought it was going to be. The recent stuff sounds fantastic live. Forgetful Heart was sublime.
