  1. I thought I read in a post in this thread someone had a pick for best Other One of 1973.  I could be losing my memory, but if it was on this thread, I cannot find the post.  Can anyone steer me in the right direction for best Other One of '73?

11/14/73 San Diego Sports Arena  --- Might not be the "best" but is a great 2nd set.

Truckin > The Other One > Big River > The Other One > Eyes > The Other One > Wharf Rat ......

  2. Thanks for the suggestion!  I've listened to that show, but not in awhile, I think the first set is really good, from what I remember. I agree about '78.  They could be sluggish and plodding on some nights and rip roaring on others.  April was a strong month that year, as was Feb.  I don't care for New Year's Eve that year nor is Egypt very impressive to me overall other than some cool moments here and there.  October Winterland run is pretty hot and so is the first run at Red Rocks in July.

It was a top year for Black Peter and Stella Blue and Its All Over Now and Estimated Prophet, imo.  What I think are probably the best versions ever performed were in 1978 for those songs.

    Black Peter 4/14/78, https://archive.org/details/gd1978-04-14.sbd.miller.83717.sbeok.flac16

    Stella Blue 10/21/78 https://archive.org/details/gd1978-10-21.sbd.miller.89721.sbeok.flac16

    Estimated Prophet 7/8/78 https://archive.org/details/gd1978-07-08.sbd.miller.106070.flac16

Thanks for the tip on that cool site.

    10/21/78 ------ Drums>Mojo>Other One>Stella>Sugar Mag. E) U.S. Blues. (Monster Other One!)

What could you really say after that run? ....Thank you..... Good Night!

  3. Doing more 1978 listening and I came across what sound to me like a couple nuggets.  One is the Wharf Rat and the Sugar Magnolia from 4-22-78 Nashville (the latest Dave's Pick, right?) https://archive.org/details/gd1978-04-22.133792.sbd.miller.flac16

and a really good Fire on the Mountain from 4-11-78 Atlanta. https://archive.org/details/gd1978-04-11.sbd.miller.108666.flac16   The ending of the Fire is, well, on fire!   :dance So is the ending of the Wharf Rat from Nashville.  Those are the kind of peaks and crescendos that I crave and that make a version really standout to me.  Jerry's soloing his ass off!

While you are at it - check out the night before at The Rupp Area. Nice show. 1978 is a fine year. Though you have to weed thru the hits and misses. When its a hit --- its out of the park.

  4. Longest:

875 mile to Portland, Or from Cambria, CA ---- with 2 young kids - Grandma/Babysitter in Portland.

    Shortest:

Same trip - Grandma's/Babysitter's house to Roseland Ballroom - 7 blocks

    Long drive. Short walk.

Great show! Second row right behind Sarah C who provided the photos posted on the web.

Forgot to say thank you back then (2004).

    Thank you.

  5. The Other One was a nice watch. I would recommend to other ones too.

    Quick question -

Who was playing bass with Bob during the closing credits?

He looked like the same guy playing bass with Billy Idol on the Guitar Center Sessions.

  6.   Oooooh I wish I was your mother

I wish I'd been your father

'n then I would have seen you

Would have been you as a child

      Played houses with your sister

And wrestled with all your brothers

      And then who knows

I might have felt a family for a while

  9. It's amazing the number of bands he played with: Beatles, Stones, Kinks, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Jeff Beck, Quicksilver Messenger Service, etc.

Nicky Hopkins was also on John Lennon's Imagine Album - piano & electric piano on "Jealous Guy", "Oh My Love" and "How Do You Sleep?"

Added a nice flavor to the JGB for a time even if he was a little pickled.

  10. I really miss the days of free trade in collecting bootlegs. For those of you I used to trade with - I'd like to re-fresh a warm thank you. Thank you.

I'd also like to add 10/30/97.

and a side note: the show from Seattle 11/28/01 I believe has 68 wailing "nothings".

I also miss the JP set (encores/closing songs) ending the shows.

    Couple of Roadcases?

  11. I'll chime in -

personal favorites - from days of old

    4/29/95 St Louis

    11/12/96 The Troubadour

    1/31/97 Mississippi Nights

    11/7/97 Liberty Lunch, Austin TX

    4/21/99 Irving Plaza

5/29/99 Angels Camp (Ripple w/Phil Lesh)

    11/5/99 Bogart's

    9/19/00 Irving Plaza

    11/28/01 Seattle

    10/30/02 Memphis

1/12/03 San Fransisco (goth Heavy Metal Drummer)

9/4/03 Eugene OR (great CA Stars sing along.....not!)

    11/13/04 San Jose

    6/11/05 Berkeley Greek

    to mention a few.

    seek and enjoy!

  12. Sorry - Jerry Shows.

1974 - great year for Garcia and Saunders and Legion of Mary

    G&S 2/5/74

    LOM 7/22/74

    1977- JGB

    8/7/77 & 12/6/77

JGB in 1976 & 1977 are pretty stoney. I like the 1978 a bit more.

1979 we saw the birth of Reconstruction (revamped LOM).

1980 is when he really took off with a very solid JGB. You can't go wrong with any show that featured

Eleanor Rigby -> After Midnight -> Eleanor Rigby.
