  1. There's a lot of eyewitness accounts and footprints, but no DNA of a unknown primate species has yet been identified in North America.
  2. Oh, now. A team going from worst-to-first is a much better story than a team defending its second championship in four years. When you win the World Series once in a decade, you can still kind of hold on to the sympathy vote, but not after twice. Then you become overdog.
  3. In a market economy, demand dictates salary. Maybe there's a better way to do it, but a utility-based system has its flaws too. All I ask is that people who work in jobs that are less in-demand be able to have a decent, if not spectacular, standard of living and are able to educate their kids and weather a major illness without going bankrupt.
  4. Huh. According to the Fed, total credit card debt in teh U.S. of A. is about a trillion dollars. Iraq and the bailout will probably end up costing that EACH. Whichever candidate supports a trillion to wipe out credit card debt for all Americans will end up with my vote for sure.
  5. How much would it cost to wipe out everybody's credit card debt, I wonder?
  6. That many of us, Wilco fans, the smartest, most refined people on EARTH, do not rise above that is a good illustration of the effectiveness of these tactics.
  7. If Ortiz and Beckett continue to perform at their current levels, it will be hard for the Sox. The Rays sure look like they have a lot more stones than Cleveland did last year.
  8. I work hard for my money too. (Honest!) My success, like everybody else's, didn't occur in a vacuum. There was a decent, if not awesome, public education, which took place in a context of an orderly society and economy, and literate people who wanted to consume the product I helped produce. To have all that costs money, which we render in the form of taxes. Since the people who make more money can afford to pay more taxes, that's what they do. Trickle-down economics holds that if you shift the burden away some from people who make more money, those people will use that money to create jobs for
  9. Fake accent my ass. What the hell are they teaching you up there?
  10. Kissinger used to get laid all the time at Studio 54 back in the day. Has a tree ever done that?
  11. You shoulda done that to Fernando Perez before Saturday's game.
  12. And could you imagine how slow the line would move at polling places during big elections. Oy. Would take three days to hold them.
  13. Well, no, but Osama is against globalization too.
  14. We don't run things like that in blue states. I guess we are just more trusting.
  15. My problem is that my signature has degraded substantially from when I registered to vote here back in 1990. If the old women at the polling place didn't know me, there would be trouble.
  16. True. The not-having-any-ID option only works if you are the Unabomber.
  17. Republican. You don't technically have to have any ID - that's why some people are pissed over the proposal to have a national ID card. (New York charges non-drivers a small fee to get a non-driver's ID.) In New York, you have to sign your name in a book next to the signature you put on your registration card. That's it.
  18. Did you not see that movie where they ate the dead people's butts?
  19. Just don't eat the brain - you will get a weird disease similar to mad cow disease.
  20. That's a lot to do in one day, even if the traffic lights are for you.
