  1. Y'know, I *would* listen to this record and probably *should* listen to this record, but I feel so snookered by the last several U2 offerings that I'm in full "don't get fooled again" mode.
  2. Whether the oblivion they fall into is collective or individual, "War" and "The Unforgettable Fire" are two of the best albums of rock, period. I commend them to your listening attention.
  3. U2 is done as a creative force. Done, and has been for the better part of 20 years. Coldplay, a band whose entire shtick is being U2 for people who are threatened by any music that's the least bit challenging or interesting, is more of a creative force than U2 is. This whole thing reminds me of the time when MSNBC was first getting started, like 1997 I believe, and I went down to Times Square and they had it playing on a giant screen. I said to my friend, "Well, that's ONE way to get people to watch MSNBC."
  4. Yeah that is a good song that I also heard on the sat-rad, along with an introductory rant about the band's name from Newman of the New Pornographers.
  5. I hope so, so he can pay his back rent to Mike Piazza.
  6. Oh man. That sucked - what a loss.
  7. Yeah, Let's Dance might have been his last quality record. Plus, it introduced many to the guitar stylings of Stevie Ray Vaughn.
  8. But only love can break your heart. Try to be sure, right from the start.
  9. "Let's Dance" is a pretty good record.
  10. You can fine-tune it, but by and large, it's a gift.
  11. This is true - as a working journalist I support this message.
  12. Lotti, are you on the wait list to take over the @sweden Twitter account? Would be a great platform for your theories.
  13. Yes - great writing. I feel like sending him a card or a bottle of booze or something.
  14. Just finished this - was very impressed by how the author synthesized 400 years of North American history and, though his prism, made it all make sense. https://www.facebook.com/pages/American-Nations-By-Colin-Woodard/261387677225942
  15. I dunno. He looks about 46 about to turn 47, which I believe is exactly how old he is. If he shaved some, he would look younger, but what does he care? He's a rock star, for Christ's sake.
  16. Granted, I've only been married two months, but I'm having some of the best workouts of my life this summer.
  17. My friends Zac and Monkey did an album about that very topic. http://deadunicorn.bandcamp.com/album/yellowstone-supervolcano
  18. And deprive Gilmour and Mason of their royalties? My God man, how are they to eat?
