Chavez loses bid to become president-for-life
bjorn_skurj replied to cryptique's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I believe it is alive. I just don't think it has the same rights as a baby, is all. Again, the mother is the only one who should make the decision on whether to carry a baby to term. Furthermore, anyone lacking a uterus shouldn't even be involved in the discussion about abortion laws, as it is a situation we will NEVER be in. -

It would seem to me that Clockwork advances the theory that free will not only exists, but is key to morality, while Slaughterhouse, where the Tralfamadorians establish that everything is preordained, up to the destruction of the universe during a flying saucer fuel experiment, posits that there's no such thing as free will.

Ironic, considering that the East Coast has its shit together more than the West. I know you are not alone in feeling that way, but we kind of settled this issue 200+ years ago, when the Federalists won. -

I'm not mad at anybody in this thread except for that dude that told me to go to bed, and that's not even this thread. He is not the boss of me. -

I am going to note that I fear and loath big business as much as anybody, but many regular people, either directly or through mutual funds, hold stock in large corporations and depend on their well-being for their own well-being. It's not as cut-and-dried as an us v. them scenario. Had to drop acid twice a week to keep it going. -

I had a 1982 Renault Alliance that was set up for that. Now, that's what I call journalism. -
About two and a half years ago, I got an XM radio and a spiff new laptop, and both have revolutionized the way I listen to music. It's all about playlists, either my own in iTunes or XM's. Rarely now do I put a CD on and listen to it all the way through, and the satrad (and the YSI mix program here at VC) has exposed me to music both new and older that I would never have heard otherwise. So it's kind of been like a renaissance or accelerando.

should bobbob1313 be issued with a cyber-asbo too?

And that the Marlins are inked in for dead last in the NL East. -
Good too, but nothing touches "Levee." No Genesis? That's just wrong.

Well, you do have a point. My strategy would be to kill the crazy ones and give the rest bourbon and Baywatch DVD sets. Allahu akbar indeed. -
For the same reason they don't call the Mets the Met. It would get confused with the opera house.

Bjorn thinks invading Iraq was a bad, bad idea. The seductiveness of the U.S. lifestyle spreads democracy much more effectively than M-16's. Bjorn doesn't mind the invasion of Afghanistan so much - it's al-Qaida's base of ops, and al-Qaida is the self-declared sworn enemy of the U.S., where Bjorn and pretty much everybody he loves or has ever loved lives. One of the reasons Bjorn is in Obama's camp now is Obama said he might go into Pakistan without Musharraf's consent to chase al-Qaida. (Bjorn doesn't trust Pakistan as far as he can throw it.) Bjorn feels there's a certain base value to every -
Doug is right in terms of general usage, but a semi-colon is more correct. At least it makes the squiggly green underline go away in Word.
-
The colon was not improper. It would be good if the writer wanted to emphasize the pretentiousness of this board.
-
-
I'd go with a semi-colon.

I am not in favor of that. I am in favor of treating Taliban/al-Qaida prisoners as we treated Japanese and German prisoners in WWII, which was a damn sight better than the Germans and ESPECIALLY the Japanese treated American prisoners. -

Why would someone hang around the Taliban or al-Qaida? Because they are PRO-American? I'm a fairly liberal person, but that ends when it comes to people who want to kill me because I am not Muslim. -

Maybe. But anyone who joins al-Qaida, I have no real sympathy for. They should be treated in accord with the Geneva Conventions because failure to do so corrodes us, not because I feel they particularly deserve to be well-treated. -
Dude, do you think the Statesman is doing anything that hasn't been standard journalistic practice for about 20 years? I agree - a lot of it is destructive, but I, for one, would really like to know if someone who is seeking to have power over my own personal self and fortunes is a particularly egregious lying sack. You want to bury your head in the sand, get a subscription to Grit and by all means, take Election Day off.
