I Got You (At The End of the Century)

    Monday>

    Outtasite (Outta Mind)

Funniest part of the show, easily, was when they came back on for the encore and launched into Hate It Here. Before too long Jeff realized that they were sans Pat. Somehow Pat just never made it back on stage, but they continued playing the song and looking at each other quizzically. Finally, about two-thirds of the way through (coincidentally, right after his "I check the phone" cue), Pat returned to a big ovation. Haha. :lol

Also happened to notice, from a setlist that a girl was holding, that Casino Queen was slated to be the closer. But they were running very short on time, so Outtasite made more sense at that point.

A solid, workmanlike show, though it seemed like the crowd energy was a little muted tonight -- at least on the floor (except for the guy next to me who was rocking out so intently that he dropped his cell phone, which smashed into several pieces). Most people stood up for most of the show, so I don't know if it was just the room or what, but it seemed like there was never that huge roar. Or at least few of them.

  2. If this is true, and it makes sense that it is, then that does suck for you Charlestonians. But at least they've already got a rescheduled date up. I know Spoon had to cancel a couple shows when they were offered SNL, so it's probably something that happens fairly frequently. Can't really pass up an opportunity to be on national TV on a highly visible show...

  3. Thank you all for the warm compliments. For me, YOU are as much a part of the whole experience as the band. That's not to say I wouldn't enjoy the band were they to play to an empty theater ;) (I was fortunate enough to see them do Pieholden 3 times that way during soundcheck)

I may not post often, nor can I match Paul and his likes in attendance, but I'm as diehard as the rest of you.

Hey Charles...I just wanted to say fabulous work, as always. It always puts a smile on my face when I see one of your pictures up on Wilcoworld, because I know the work you put into shooting each show and what a big fan you are. I think it's great the band has found a way to use so much of the fantastic talents of its fanbase lately, like your photos and Johnny's posters. I'll see you again, sooner rather than later I hope. I look forward to seeing your shots from this past week when you get them processed! :rock

  4. Anyone know any specifics about a possible Wilco VH1 story or segment. It was confirmed by a couple of people that Jeff and John were being interviewed on the stage pre-show one day at the Riv. They also shot some live footage apparently. I tried the VH1 site, but I'll I could find was lots of garbage about Bret Michaels.

I have no insight about when stuff taped at the Residency would air, or in what format. As far as I know, we're still waiting for (or perhaps cringing at the thought of) that footage from last summer's show at the Pines Theater in Northampton to show up. That was supposedly shot for some VH1-related thing as well, wasn't it?

  5. Becca- (alto sax)- A friend of Nels from Denver who happened to have her sax with her, so we roped her into playing. I'd never met her before this weekend, but she was great, and sight-read everything perfectly.

FYI: Becca's last name is Michalak, I believe. I know she's done a few shows with Nels in LA and Denver in the past.

And I can't really add anything to what's already been said here, but thanks for all of your contributions the past week and for heading out East next week. :thumbup

  6. I'm glad some folks came out tonight, it was a lot of fun. :cheers

maybe the best discovery, aside from tasty $3 mystery brews, was that a certain vc moderator (cough...maudie...cough) is a guitar hero prodigy! :rock

  7. got this nice note yesterday after an email friend, Kyle, stopped by to talk to Basia and Holly in Portland:

aww, that was sweet of Basia. you've been doing a great job with the virtual street team, T. :)

too bad that i didn't get to Chicago just a few days earlier to catch her show here. would have been great to see her do that Sam Cooke song.

  8. Happy happy day, m'dear! I'm sure Mart will serenade you with birthday melodies a'plenty...

Here's to another great year filled with more meals at Dino, plenty of wonderful vino, fun-filled road trips, shows at Largo and of course, a national championship for the Terps! :thumbup

  9. Well I didn't stay awake for this. Is there a simple (for us simpletons) way to download this?? Podcast, etc? I can check myself, but just busy today on the road. (The Who fronted by a Japanese school girl was part of a promo...was that the most interesting thing said??)

They have it available for download in 10 parts on that link. It's just Jeff and Jon Langford talking, though. Not the music itself-guess there are rights issues with that. Anyway, my favorite story Jeff told was about meeting John Cale once and how he looked like Richard Simmons. Ha! :lol

  10. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that "Entire Recorded Works" will be defined as the stuff that's on the full-length releases -- AM, Being There, Summerteeth, YHF, AGIB, SBS plus Mermaid 1 and 2. In other words, don't get your hopes up for, say, "The T.B. Is Whipping Me" or stuff off of demos, etc.

I would guess that the Mermaid Stuff will probably be limited to the stuff they already do, i.e. California Stars, Hesitating Beauty, Remember the Mountain Bed, Christ For President, Airline to Heaven, One By One, Hoodoo Voodoo and maybe Another Man's Done Gone. I would be mildly surprised (though extremely pleased) if we got Secrets of the Sea, Feed of Man or Blood of the Lamb).

And I would be shocked if they did any songs that are technically non-Wilco songs, like Laminated Cat. FWIW. :ermm

  11. Great seeing you last night, Drew. That room is a bit hoity-toity for my taste (and the ushers can be a bit uptight and the tickets pricey), but it's a gorgeous space and the sound is immaculate.

It was a treat to see Joe with guests Brad Mehldau on piano and Don Byron on clarinet (for two songs), not to mention that fabulous rhythm section. :thumbup

  12. I usually would not have recorded from so close, but that night I wanted to be in the action (9:30 pit!). I was about 3 people behind you.

Besides the normal whoo-hoo's and random song requests - the crowd was not bad.

Ah, I see. Well, I certainly wasn't doing any whoo-hooing (except during I'm The Man :lol ) or making random song requests, so I think I should be safe. A repeat performance this year?
