  1. What was this about?

They and their families apparently were vacationing on the same isolated beach in Mexico a couple of years back, two cabins away from each other. And at least according to Jeff, the person staying in the cabin between them was an Uncle Tupelo fan...ha! :pirate

  2. Here was the full setlist, as best as I could cobble it together through the stories, interruptions, etc. I also have who requested what (when Jeff announced it) in case anyone's interested. I'll probably butcher the spelling of a lot of names, though.

  3. Has anybody ever told Craig that he looks like Clint Howard?

I'm sure he would be quite insulted. :lol He does have a way with the ladies. (Mart, you think Craig would be amused to learn he's being discussed on the Wilco message board?)

P.S. The last couple of times I've seen Mart, he's done great renditions of Jesus, etc. and Misunderstood.

  4. There's also a song co-written with the lovely Rennie Sparks, that I can't remember the name of right now (and, in truth, is probably the poorest track on the album).

It's All The Same To Me, which is a terrific song (although maybe the album version suffers a little bit from the production).

  5. Damn, I've just been catching up. What a shocker. I've been hearing way too much about people passing away lately, and this is saddest news yet...:no

I had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with Nat a few times, I think most recently at Jeff's solo show in Portland in early 2006 (on the tour for the Sunken Treasure DVD). We were standing next to each other at the front of the stage and I remember chatting with her before the show started and thinking, 'Wow, this is the first time I've really had a chance to talk to her. She's very cool.' I also have a distinct memory of her hanging outside the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts after the Wilco show there in November 2004, waiting to give each band his personal tinfoil sculpture.

Condolences to you guys who were especially tight with her. And special thanks to all you archive diggers for finding some memories. They reminded me about some of the early days of this place, and how Nat was a really big part of it. RIP. We'll miss you.

  6. Is there a reason why wilco avoids new york city like the plague?

theyre going to new haven for crying out loud.

or am i wrong and is an nyc gig in the books...

could be worse-you could be in philly. not that i have any great love for philly, but I believe the show there next month will be the band's first in those parts in almost three years.

the band itself doesn't have much to do with where specifically they're going to play, anyway. i mean, if they wanted to line up a new york gig (or anywhere else), they could obviously, but i believe that the intent of the february run is to mostly hit some places they haven't yet behind sky blue sky.

  7. Thanks everyone! I celebrated with a buffalo burger and There Will Be Blood. Holy shit, what an amazing movie!!!

    Thanks again!

I still remember your elk stew from one of those VC summits at Lou's house forever ago. You're a fan of the game meat, I take it. Anyway, hope you had a great day (sounds like it...)! :thumbup

  8. Others more qualified will chime in, I'm sure, but I was there and had a very good time despite some of the very, very drunk people near us in the audience. John and Pat played with Jon on a few songs (as well as doing a few Autumn Defense numbers to open), and Britt Daniel also showed up early to play a few before he had to leave and play his own show. My favorite part of the night was probably Jon's take on Springsteen. :D

Awesome photo, B! You didn't mention the Jon/John/Pat/Howie (the crowd member/drummer) take on "Sentimental Lady," which I know made at least one person swoon...

Britt did "Everything Hits At Once" and "The Underdog" on acoustic guitar with Jon on piano and Chamberlin before John, Pat and Howie joined them for the Beatles' "I Feel Fine." And the Autumn Defense set included "The Sun In California," "Bluebirds Fall" and "Spend Your Life" and concluded with the aforementioned "Sentimental Lady."

And Jon's closing salvo of "Cortez The Killer," the Springsteen homage with amazingly improvised lyrics and "God Only Knows" was pretty darn spectacular as well. (I think Robyn Hitchcock's Queen Elvis" was also somewhere in that closing flurry, as well, but someone else can provide the exact order this time. ;))

  9. In the interest of being a blatant pimp for my show this coming Thursday, I'm bumping this up in the hope that any NYC-area-based VCers might be in the neighborhood.

Hey Mart...I'm flying home that day, so weather permitting, I'll be there! (It might be a little tight timewise, though, so if it's OK, I might need to borrow your keys before the show to throw my bags in your car. :blush)

  10. Has anyone heard anything about a secret Wilco show in Salt Lake City on New Year's Eve? It seems weird... but there are some rumors floating around here (SLC) about a show at either Bar X or Bar Deluxe (two super-small clubs).

Can anyone confirm or deny? Thanks...

That would be pretty random. I'm thinking no...:pirate

  11. also, more venus stop the train, and not for the season.

I wouldn't hold my breath. NFTS isn't technically a Wilco song, and Venus isn't something the band has ever officially released. There's probably a better chance of hearing Just A Kid or Let's Not Get Carried Away or something like that, I'd think...

  12. We'll definitely be playing while you're in nyc, T... let me know the dates.

Been meaning to chime in on this...

If you have any hope of making it to Mart's show on Jan. 3, do what you have to do to get there. Not only is he marvelous and will have a great band playing with him, an all-original set is a rare treat. One of the pleasures of living in the NYC area is getting the chance to see Mart play so often. :thumbup

And Tualla, I'm going to be really sad if your visit happens when I'm not in town. See what you can do about that...:lol (I really will be sad, though.)

  13. No.

    www.thenationalva.com

I don't get what you're pointing us to, if anything (except that this venue's dressing room for the headlining act apparently has a big hot tub). Are you saying the band is playing this venue, or...what exactly?
