The new lineup from what I remeber includes Dizzy, Robin Fincch (From NIN), Tommy Stinton (Replacements...boy is he busy)
What, no Buckethead?
I saw GNFR at the Garden a couple years ago--their last show until now I guess. I remember because me and a buddy went and then we heard the day after that Axl had cancelled the rest of the tour.

Went to see Tilly & The Wall last night and was a little bit disappointed - though they sounded more country / folk that I was expecting.
Was more impressed with the support act Emmy The Great who was very good - kooky folk with polka dot skirt and a cardigan.
Full review and some snazzy pictures of the lovely Tilly girls
I'm a little surprised that both you and the reviewer came away emphasizing the country/folk aspect of the Tillys as much as you did. I guess I just mean that, to me, country/folk or what people often call alt-country usually has some measure of twang and I don't get that from Tilly & the Wall. To me, they're hard to categorize (which is probably why I like them). Obviously they're not for everyone--it's just weird to me to hear some of the UK reviews using the dreaded alt-country term to describe them.
That said, thanks for posting the review and pics!

:omg is right. i missed this thread and so then i missed the need for the story, and i'm assuming i missed the story too, so paul, can we have story time some day soon please?
K...long story short, I went to see Flight of the Conchords (on U's recommendation) at the Schuba's day party at SXSW and like 5 minutes after I got there, so did Neil. He was there to check out the M's, I'm guessing on Jonathan Demme's recommendation. As to how I got in the picture...

Unless I have a different "Either Way" in my iPod.
Chapel Hill- 03/06/06
Rob, you have it down as "Maybe The Sun Will Shine Today." Pretty sure it's the same song.
Yeah, Rob--"Either Way" is just how they have it listed on their setlist. Like Walken, it's just shorthand. I'm sure the actual title will be different. But when I referred to Either Way, I did mean that song that begins, "Maybe the sun will shine today." Same song.
It's a mid-tempo number, but keep in mind it's also still very much a work in progress...

You can't start *and* end with a new song, can you? Especially in a city you've never played before? Apparently you can. They sounded great.
About the only thing that went wrong was Jeff breaking a string during Airline To Heaven. One of the worst times that could have happened since his strumming is the backbone of that song. Also, Nels somehow hurt his finger between the end of the main set and the beginning of the first encore so he was also somewhat hampered during Airline. Other than that -- and a couple of lyrical snafus for Jeff -- it was a fun, loose show...
Setlist as follows:
new song-Either Way
Hummingbird
Handshake Drugs
A Shot in the Arm
At Least That's What You Said
Hell Is Chrome
Spiders (Kidsmoke)
IATTBYH
Forget The Flowers
Walken

I thought most of the jam-band folks took pretty well to the Wilco set, although in the interest of full disclosure, I couldn't really see most of the crowd. It was a fun show, as festivals go. Had to endure Slightly Stoopid and G. Love and Special Sauce (and even the two of them playing together at one point), but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do...
Setlist as follows...
Airline to Heaven
Kingpin
Handshake Drugs
A Shot in the Arm
At Least That's What You Said
Hell Is Chrome
Spiders (Kidsmoke)
IATTBYH
Forget The Flowers (w/John and Pat on background vox)
War on War
Jesus, etc.

The Late Greats
*They audibled out of The Good Part, which was on the setlist after Hummingbird I believe. Nels grabbed his white Jazzmaster and didn't realize that they weren't doing TGP until Jeff strummed the first chords of Walken. Then he realized and switched to the lap steel. Ha ha.
*I wonder if the band will make it on to a Langerado DVD, if there is one. For pretty much every other band this weekend, there were video guys taping after all of the press photographers got kicked out of the area in front of the stage. But I saw nary a video camera at the respective point in Wilco's set. Then again, they *really* didn't fit in very well with most of the rest of the lineup.
*First time I haven't seen Jeff wear a jacket in forever. Then again, it was like 80 degrees. (To any interested parties: He went with a black western shirt.)
