  1. Since a couple of us Chicagoans were discussing it elsewhere within these VC corridors and I think at least one or two VCers were there, figured I would at least file an abridged report from this Valentine's Day Planned Parenthood benefit show (incidentally, Jeff labeled Valentine's Day "corporate bullshit," though he still played a few love songs for the assembled throng)... I suppose we were lucky to get even five songs from Jeff when the rest of the acts on the crowded bill (mostly consisting of local young up-and-coming acts, though Whitney got added at the very last minute and played as
  2. Thanks, Vince. That's the outcry I was looking for! Haha, it's just funny to me that whenever new tour dates get announced, no matter where they are, all the comments on social media are invariably like, "When are you coming to [my town]?" I totally agree! The European date format is not to be messed with, hence my post titles in After The Show.

  4. Hadn't seen this posted on here anywhere, so figured I would at least mention it... Looks like tonight at 10 p.m. Central time — that is, 27 January — WXRT will be premiering Jeff's Live From Studio X set taped at Subterranean in Chicago on (I believe) 13 December. Here's some more info, as well as a video of a 15-minute interview with Marty Lennartz apparently taped before Jeff played. Looking forward to hearing the performance!
  5. At yesterday's (Jan. 26) Live From Here taping at Chicago's Symphony Center, host Chris Thile, guest Gaby Moreno and the LFH house band covered Shake It Off. Although it's not one of my personal favorites, it reminded me how long it's been since I've heard that one...

    What's Your 20?

They at least considered it, because there are vinyl test pressings of it. But for whatever reason (financial?), they decided ultimately not to press it on vinyl officially.
  7. Thanks for sharing. Couldn’t help but notice, since you mentioned the talk in SF last night, that you didn’t mention Jeff’s comments vis à vis Bruce. I thought Jeff’s take was interesting, particularly because like myself, I consider myself a pretty big fan of both and I don’t think I’m alone here. But I do find it interesting what Jeff said when asked (and I’d be interested to hear Bruce’s take on Jeff’s, if he is really even knowledgeable enough about it to comment).
  8. Even better! Glad I bought a ticket. You gonna go?
  9. To be honest, I wasn't really clocking the various sets but I'd say Jeff was on stage for about 90 minutes on average. There were maybe two or three fewer songs played at Largo than, say, shows on the fall solo tour. But you also have to keep in mind that at Largo, he probably ends up talking quite a bit more than at an average show, so you have to factor that in as well.
  10. Really? When I click it, it takes me to the Ticketmaster.nl site. I've bought Paradiso tickets through them before, so maybe try that? Like I said, one of the two shows is sold out so you won't be able to buy tickets for that one except through secondary market sites...
  11. In addition to all the newly announced Jeff solo/Warm tour dates, it looks like he'll also be headlining a Planned Parenthood benefit at Lincoln Hall in Chicago on Valentine's Day. Lots of cool local acts on the bill. Tickets already appear to be on sale.
  12. Did you try clicking the Tickets link on the Wilcoworld Shows page? (I believe one of those Amsterdam shows is already sold out, but it looks like there are still some tickets to the other).
  13. How best to accurately describe and sum up the thrilling-yet-odd, delightful-yet-awkward experience of seeing Jeff perform solo at Largo? Including this year's four-show run, which concluded tonight, he has now played a total of 10 shows over the course of about five years at the intimate theater on La Cienaga Boulevard and you could make the argument that each of them has been somehow unique. Part of that can be attributed to Jeff's mood and state of mind on any given night, while you also have to factor in the spirit of the venue and its cast of characters, not to mention audience dynamics
  14. The third of Jeff's four shows at the West Hollywood institution Largo this first week of 2019 could probably be succinctly described in two words: Family Night. The definition of family, of course, extended beyond simply Jeff's blood relations to a wider circle of people comprising everyone from bandmates to other musical compatriots to support staff (and even their relations). But of course, it was some of the people closest to Jeff who played the biggest roles in helping to make this a unique show. Certainly with Jeff's sons Spencer and Sammy both accompanying their dad on this trip, ther
  15. Yeah, he was absolutely serious. As previously mentioned in this thread, I believe it was being planned for Record Store Day...though I guess that could be moved up. I feel compelled to respond to this, at least briefly. I think Jeff will respond to a sincere question if he senses that it's being asked sincerely. For example, the question about the Scott McCaughey lyric in Let's Go Rain. But I think he probably doesn't respond well to someone he feels is just trying to provoke him or be a wiseass. I think his response to the question about the audiobook probably reflected that. I'm not 10
  16. A couple of songs into his second of four performances at Largo this week, as he often does when playing multiple nights in the same venue, Jeff took a moment to survey the audience of about 250 as to how many had attended the previous evening's show. When a smattering of applause that he estimated to be about 20 responded, Jeff said in a delightful tone, "Oh good, I can just play the exact same songs I did last night." He was joking, of course, as he has done countless times before. But few could have anticipated just how much when he then proceeded to play some songs he rarely ever does, s
  17. With his hair newly trimmed (for the first time since the 2016 election!) and without his trademark Stetson, Jeff took the Largo stage once again to kick off the new year with the first of four shows over the next five days. Almost from the start, he tried to lower any expectations that the crowd of about 250 might have had by admitting he hadn't practiced very much recently and how he hoped some people were coming to other shows because this one would likely be kind of a warm-up gig. Jeff was (half?) joking, of course, but he did more or less stick with his stated plan of playing songs he k
  18. FYI Nalafej, Nels playing Santana music at this year's Alternative Guitar Summit (celebrating the music of Woodstock 50 years after) at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC on March 21. Here's the link to the Jambands.com story (which contains another link to the LPR site).
  19. Surprised that no one has posted a link to this story yet. Pretty amazing that they are still discovering stuff like this... The 20th anniversary of Mermaid Avenue also snuck up on me. Anyway, onward!
  20. Wow, the Moon! Sneaky little add. Saw Wilco there many, uh, moons ago. They started and ended with songs from Sky Blue Sky that hadn’t been released yet. Thanks for the heads up!
  21. Looks like Jeff will also be at the Amplify Decatur Music Festival in Georgia on April 13 — Record Store Day, incidentally — with Mavis Staples and Kevin Kinney, among others... https://www.bandsintown.com/e/100592352?came_from=271&utm_medium=webpush&utm_source=just_announced&utm_campaign=event&message_id=3729545624
  22. Pretty much almost right after the other one sold out, I guess. Sneaky buggers!
