marino13
oooone.... ooooone..... oooone or two won't dooooooo.... Just got this in the mail and Poison Cup absolutely blows me away. I have a five minute ride to work and I'm having trouble getting through the rest of the album because I always have to start with Poison Cup followed by some serious steering wheel thumping to To Go Home. marino13
I've listened to enough clips to realize I need to get some of this guy's material, where would you guys suggest one start? Post War is streaming on the Merge Records website if you want to check out more than clips. http://www.mergerecords.com/
Atticus
thanks! I'll check a lot of this out over the weekend. in what vein would you say most of his stuff is? (I realize that's a difficult one to anwer--people ask me the same about wilco and I end up scratching my head and making a mix cd...)

(I realize that's a difficult one to anwer--people ask me the same about wilco and I end up scratching my head and making a mix cd...) He is "different" with a "classic" sound. I guess I would scratch my head and make you a mix cd ( ). I started with Transistor Radio, which IMO has a more continuous feel to it. I then purchased his previous albums and got Post-War (his most recent). I like Post-War the best and Transistor Radio second. There are some great songs on all of his albums, I just like his last two in terms of cohesive feeling. Post-War has, by far, the most strings and other accompaniment than the other albums. edit: I recently made this playlist for my mother and a couple friends, which (I think) is a decent representation of his music: 1. Color of Water - End of Amnesia2. Caroline - End of Amnesia3. From a Pirate Radio - End of Amnesia4. Poison Cup - Post-War5. Chinese Translation - Post-War6. Magic Trick - Post-War7. Vincent O'Brien - Transfiguration of Vincent8. Sad, Sad Song - Transfiguration of Vincent9. Duet for Guitars, No. 3 - Transfiguration of Vincent10. Poor Boy, Minor Key - Transfiguration of Vincent11. Hi-Fi - Transistor Radio12. Fuel for Fire - Transistor Radio13. Four Hours in Washington - Transistor Radio14. Big Boat - Transistor Radio15. Radio Campaign - Transistor Radio16. Here Comes the Sun Again - Transistor Radio17. Lullaby & Exile - Transistor Radio
wilceaux
I would add "I'll Be Your Bird" and "O'Brien's Nocturne" to that list.
Guest Rufer
I would add "I'll Be Your Bird" and "O'Brien's Nocturne" to that list. And I would add the aforementioned 'Outta My Head'. Incredible lyrics: Oh a playful little kitten met a playful little bird, and then off with it's head, off with it's head, oh my. And a breeze met a blossom in a winter embraceand then off with it's head, off with it's head, oh my. Am I outta my head, outta my head my love?Am I outta my head or is this real life? Well you brought me in from the cold babefor to sharpen up your knivesand then off with my head, off with my head, oh my. First you taught me how to crawl, and you then taught me how to cryand then off with my head, off with my head, oh my. Am I outta my head, am I outta my head my love?Am I outta my head or is this goodbye?Am I outta my head or is this goodbye?
