pnêyu
Whew, I was afraid that Andrew was exercising his dry wit once again and was posting about this JoJo: Evonne, you have a variety of couches, futons, air mattresses, and sleeping bags to choose from while you're up here. Come visit!
fortuneinmyhead
tommy is one of the finest drummers i've seen
Albert Tatlock
HOORAY, ANDREW!! will you get to see any of these shows? I have seen him once before many many moons ago. If either or both of you make it to SF, I will be there! You did come remarkably close to an unannounced knock on the door and having to make space for someone on the couch (feet overhanging no doubt) for 4 nights. Whew, I was afraid that Andrew was exercising his dry wit once again and was posting about this JoJo:I'm sure she's a very nice lady, but I only have eyes for Mr Richman. Now I have to go and practise my hip swiveling and manic grinning. If you get a chance to have a word - (1) Put in a request for 'Vincent Van Gogh' (2) There's a spare room here if he's travelling in typical JoJo light and low-key mode. He would have to sing for his supper of course. I can do the backing for 'The Baltimores'.
ms. yvon
that san francisco date is THIS sunday...could be a bit o' a whirlwind as i'll be holding down a chair at largo on friday...
gogo
Evonne, if you can be here by 2:00 on Sunday, you're also invited to my grandma's 90th birthday party! How much more incentive could you possibly need?!?
Albert Tatlock
Ms Y, I think you missed this during your enforced sabbatical:-http://archive.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=22803 There are a few YouTube goodies posted half way through the thread, but some seem to have been removed. Thank goodness this survives:-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEe40SJtQns...athan%20richmanWe kept you a piece of cake from the party for a while, but the birds had it in the end. Albert Tatlock
Now we just need to work on getting Andrew out here...If that were to happen, I would have to stay the week. Have you seen this yet:- http://www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com/200...gi?show=artists It's free you jammy buggers!Elvis C, Steve Earle, Gillian Welch, Billy Bragg, not to mention the reason I heard about it/mentioned it to you in the first place: EMMYLOU. That would be some week. Rocket fuel for the soul.I have been swooning over some of the hard copy photos from Cambridge that arrived today.

ms. yvon
andrew, we went to night one at the make-out room last night. jojo played an abbreviated set, but explained that he's suffering from a callous of sorts on his vocal chords. among the songs we were treated to:-when harpo plays his harp-les etoiles-men and women fight b/c sometimes they must-vincent van gogh-the lovely salvador dali song-let her go into the darkness (laundromat! laundromat! laundromat!) after the show (hey, that's the name of another forum...) we asked mr. r. to sign our super-cool posters. we told him that our friend andrew would be seeing him during the england tour, and asked that he keep vincent v. in the set list. he nodded vigourously, as he couldn't speak per his doctor (really.) however, we all told him that you would be at the london show. there is no london show. so. we botched that a little, but perhaps things will work out. as an added bonus: i met up with an old friend who had been at my first ever jojo show. he and his fiancee were in town for a wedding, and decided to see the show, too! lovely night, just much too short. considering the amount of anchor steam i imbibed, anyway. ms. yvon
forgot to mention: bought a poster at the show last night. in the bar it looked silver and black. i liked the design, but would have liked a different color combo. this morning, after i'd returned to l.a., as i was putting the sleeved poster into the trunk of my car, i decided to get a good look at it. turns out, it was green and black! who knew?! so, neat! Albert Tatlock
-when harpo plays his harpGood one! Shame about the abbreviated set Thanks for the report! after the show we asked mr. r. to sign our super-cool posters. we told him that our friend andrew would be seeing him during the england tour, and asked that he keep vincent v. in the set list. he nodded vigourously, as he couldn't speak per his doctor (really.)I'll try and see if he remembers you, though what with needing to beat the public transport curfews, I've never actually hung around to meet anyone after a show. Must brush up on my charades * if talking is a no-no. Maybe if I bring two pairs of flags we can do semaphore. * I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue is a long-time favourite of mine. I think any JoJo fan would would be on the same wavelength.Who can forget Lionel Blair looking on in awe as Una Stubbs pulled off '12 Angry Men' in under a minute. The master of the genre was undoubtedly Lionel Blair, and who will ever forget him, exhausted and on his knees, finishing off An Officer and a Gentleman in under two minutes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_Sorry_I_Haven%27t_A_Cluehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_Sorry_I...#Sound_Charades there is no london show. so. we botched that a little, but perhaps things will work out. Well someone's got my money, though I haven't got a ticket yet. Union Chapel - it's still listed here http://www.unionchapel.org.uk/whatson/inde...p/20061001.html Maybe he's confused as it's north London and he may have been told 'Islington'. I hope so .... Albert Tatlock
This sort of poster? That is smart (and I say that as someone who really doesn't generally get worked up about concert posters). Some more evidence for the optimistic:- I have seem one web site listing it as 'Islington' now, so just maybe I was right. You geographically challenged Americans! gogo
Actually, something closer to this poster: That's the same artist, but he doesn't have the more recent ones on his site yet. Something more along those lines, though.
ms. yvon
whew! ok, so he's playing london. i just looked at the above list, didn't see it there, thought we'd dropped the ball. maudie, is your poster green as well? i must say i had the BEST time last weekend. soup to nuts. i am still pooped, but having no regrets! Albert Tatlock
This puts me in good mood for tonight:- from http://jojofiles.blogspot.com/ Jojo in Newcastle Jonathan Richman Concert ReviewFriday 13th October 2006,All Saints Church, Newcastle When I first heard that Jonathan was going to be playing in an old church in Newcastle, I did wonder how that would be. I had visions of him being at the front of the aisle with us in the audience all lined up watching him in narrow pews: of course with no room to dance. Or maybe it would be in a dusty old church hall, straight after the boy scouts or yoga group had finished? Thankfully it turned out to be neither, and in fact was rather lovely. All Saints Church is an 1796
pnêyu
I hope his vocal chords have recovered a bit in the last couple of weeks. If not, Andrew, please report back on any miming JoJo may attempt.
