owl
So- I have a special place in my heart for Califone. I know many of you do as well. Anyway, they have a fantastic new CD coming out on 10/10. And they're on tour now. They're doing two sets for a lot of these shows. The first set will be improvised music set to film- namely, Brent Green's animations. The second set will be Califone and their proper songs. So go if they come to your town! They play great music, they're great people, and they're lots of fun. Here are the dates: I'll be attending the Philly World Cafe show. 10/04/06 !@ Tucson, AZ Plush (All ages 9PM) (tix)10/05/06 !# San Diego, CA Casbah (21+ 8:30PM) (tix)10/07/06 $ Los Angeles, CA Getty Museum10/08/06 % Los Angeles, CA Spaceland (21+ 8:30PM) (tix)10/10/06 ^] San Francisco, CA Bottom Of The Hill (21+ 8PM) (tix)10/12/06 % Portland, OR Doug Fir Lounge (21+ 8PM) (tix)10/13/06 % Seattle, WA Triple Door (All ages 6PM) (tix)10/14/06 Vancouver, BC Media Club (19+)10/16/06 Boise, ID Neurolux (21+ 9PM)10/17/06 & Salt Lake City, UT Urban Lounge (21+ 9PM) (tix)10/19/06 & Omaha, NE Sokol Underground (All ages) (tix)10/20/06 &* Minneapolis, MN 400 Bar (21+ 8PM) (tix)10/21/06 &( Chicago, IL Empty Bottle (21+ 9pm) (tix)10/22/06 Chicago, IL Hideout10/23/06 London West End, UK The Social10/24/06 London East End, UK Hoxton Bar And Kitchen10/25/06 Leytonstone, London What
deepseacatfish
I just got into Califone over this summer, and may seriously consider getting to one of those Hideout shows in Chicago if time and money permit.

owl
I totally understand. I'd be hard-pressed to see anyone if I had to drive that far. Although I did once fly to Chicago to see Jeff Tweedy...
Wendy
I am going to definitely be at the final show at Birdy's in Indy, and hopefully the Wexner Center in Columbus as well. I can't wait for the official release and the shows. What I have heard of the new tunes knocked me out.

Wendy
Or Mich. Road trip! You could do the Friday Nov 3 show in Cleveland at the Beachland Tavern perhaps? Not a bad drive IMO. And the average driving speed between Toldeo and Cleveland on the Ohio Toll Road is 80 to 90.
aricandover
the theater at the Warhol is a great place to see a show

street spirit
I will fully admit to listening to this because PFork gave it the blessed "best new music" tag... and because the description seemed right up my alley... but here is my dilemna:I currently have 1 ticket for Sufjan Stevens on the night Califone is in Vancouver...I have currently put out the feelers to try and find two tickets to Yo La Tengo the night Califone is in Vancouver... If I get a reviewer pass to YLT, I pretty much have to go there, but if not, would I kick myself forever for missing this? (I've seen Sufjan twice, for the record, and in retrospect, am not in love with his music or anything, although I'm sure it'll be a good show)

(I've seen Sufjan twice, for the record, and in retrospect, am not in love with his music or anything, although I'm sure it'll be a good show)I have not seen Sufjan, nor have I seen Califone. However, owning albums from each Califone>Sufjan without question. And I have a feeling selling the tickets and getting Califone tickets would be well worth it in that case. Yo La Tengo>Califone if I had to pick which one to see, especially with a reviewer pass. I'm still hoping to catch Califone or Yo La Tengo this year, but it may not happen
owl
I'd say if you've already seen Sufjan, but not Califone, check out Califone. Of course, like I said, I am biased.

MattZ
Thank you to everyone in this chain. I checked out Roots and Crowns as a result of this chain and fell in love with it. Then, perfect timing, went to their shows in NYC and Brooklyn on Thurs/Fri last week. Can't get enough of the Califone now. Such great stuff... Thanks again peeps.
