Oh, I don't think people who join the army are necessarily stupid (well, not moreso than the general population anyway -- I'm sure it's got its share of idiots). But it is disproportionately full of those who are uneducated. Uneducated is not the same as stupid. A lot of those who enlisted did so because they come from a poor background and the military provided them with the best opportunity to get out of the ghetto or whatever. For someone who doesn't have access to the resources they need for college, trade school, whatever, it's a smart move, at least in times of better leadership.

It's the same way at the hospital where I work. We have doctors, technicans and office staff, and then there are the people who keep the hospital running. It takes all kinds.

I'm not convinced those are American soldiers, but it was a cute video. Appears to be a training accident, which, not surprisingly, happen occasionally.

"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform and I personally apologize to any service member, family member or American who was offended," Kerry said in a statement.

I accept the apology. I'm not sure about the split infinitive though. That's a deeper wound that may take time to heal.

He'll have to dumb things down a bit so it fits in with the current state of American political discourse. I say that as a citizen of a nation whose government has been wrapped up in whether or not an MP called another MP a dog for the last two weeks (clearly the most important thing the government could possibly be discussing)... I feel your pain.

Yeh,as someone who has been following televised debates for the last few weeks or so,I can unequivocably state that the current state of amerikan political discourse is at its lowest ebb of any time in my memory. (what's left of it anyway :lol )

Are you implying that every Republican, some Dems, and some Undecideds are too uneducated/stupid to put it into context? :pirate

No. What I'm saying is that republicans will not bother to put it into context, AND will have it spewed out of context from now until the polls are closed (or until republicans retain/regain control...whichever comes first) by Fox/Drudge/Rush/Hannity/Coulter,etc. Having said that, there are a lot of people of all politcal stripes who are too uneducated to put this into context.
