lizish
I like these juried competitions, like the Mercury and the Polaris - and I've only heard of three of these acts (yai, bob evans and augie march are all excellent). Some Convict willing to give some impressions: http://undercover.com.au/News-Story.aspx?id=1253 Australian Music Prize Longlist Confirmed by Tim Cashmere - January 9 2007photo by Tim Cashmere The $25,000 Australian Music Prize has today announced the long list of 25 finalists. Artists that have made the list tend to lean more towards more established names, although a few completely unknowns have made it in. This list will be re-judged by the official AMP judges and narrowed down to a list of 8. That shortlist will then be re-judged again and one final award of $25,000 will be presented. willywoody
the drones for me. the drones are great but gala mill seems to recycle too many musical ideas for me when compared to "wait by the river..." that being said i just watched the movie "the proposition" and the last song from gala mill is their interpretation of the movie and is as good as any dylan song. Calexico
howling bells for me Howling Bells and Lisa Gerrard are the only two I know of. I presume she is the same Lisa that did music for Gladiator and worked with Dead Can Dance.
Aeglos
AM should win imo, but the YAI is a great return to form. I don't mind Sarah Blasko's album, but i would probably like it more if i hadn't discovered Cortney Tidwell first... =/
sister morphine
augie march will win, and they deserve to you do know that howling bells are just waikiki repackaged for the emo crowd, right?
Campaigner
So many lightweights on that list. Any decision other than 'Gala Mill' is a pretty ordinary one. Doesn't matter if it's maybe not as good as 'Wait Long By the River...', it's still 10 times better than anything Augie Bloody March will ever put out. And here's thinking I have to sit through the Augie March singer before I can see Wilco next weekend. May spoil the whole night for me... or maybe not. All IMHO, obviously
