Bush: "I'm the decision-maker" on Iraq

Recommended Posts

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush, on a collision course with Congress over Iraq, said Friday "I'm the decision-maker" about sending more troops to the war. He challenged skeptical lawmakers not to prematurely condemn his plan.

"I've picked the plan that I think is most likely to succeed," Bush said in an Oval Office meeting with senior military advisers.

The president had strong words for lawmakers on both sides of the aisle who are lining up to support resolutions opposing his decision to send 21,500 troops to Iraq. He challenged them to put up their own ideas. "Some are condemning a plan before it's even had a chance to work," he said.

Didn't he just say 'let's work together' the other night, or am I hard of hearing. I feel like we have been cast into a dictatorship with statements like this. Now, he has approved the killing of Iranians who want to kill anyone in Iraq. Two more years of hell with this bloody war! It continuously makes me sick to my stomach. This week alone has been one of the deadliest that I can remember. Jesus!

His arrrogance is only surpassed by his stupidity. As has been shown time & time again, Bush/Cheney are gonna do whatever the fuck they want.

When you've loaded the benches with judges that have been hand-picked to justify your agenda Congressional oversight & inquiries are like a fly buzzing around the ass-end of a cow...just a minor inconvenience.

And of course, when in doubt, just lie your ass off & try to make the bastards prove something.

Jess if you want to read something that will really horrify you, may I suggest the John Dean book "Worse then Watergate". This Admin., and Cheney in particular, are masters of secrecy and deception & truly are running a 'shadow government'. I doubt if any of the committees on the Hill have the slightest idea of what is really going on. :hmm

thanks for the recommendation. I'm really already horrified. Cheney has been a part of the White House since Nixon and it's time for him to go. he should really be sent to jail like Scooter Libby for this Valerie Plame stuff.

I'm ready for a street protest against this war. haven't seen any of those lately.

One thing I really find so sad is that this Admin. has left so many many things in disarray that there really is NO TIME to look into stuff like impeachment proceedings, criminal trials, etc..

Valerie Plame alone should be enough for charges of treason.

The Plame thing, egregious as it was, is small potatoes, and barely even registers among the truly fucked-up and evil things that Cheney has done, if he even was involved with that at all (though I suspect he was).

i dont like cheney because he makes mean faces.

no, really...this whole administration is completely unlikeable. i just wish they would realize that they have wasted two terms and what will be 8 years of our lives. they've accomplished nothing of note domestically and internationally they have soiled our reputation to a point that we may never recover. our country should lead by example and what our leaders have shown has not been very flattering to say the least.

i'm thinking that anyone who's been in office since the mid-80's should be shown the door. nobody should be entitled to a government paycheck just because they've been in office longer than the furniture. mr kennedy, mr byrd (not just picking on democrats here) i'm speaking to you and your ilk.

In an interview, Pelosi also said she was puzzled by what she considered the president's minimalist explanation for his confidence in the new surge of 21,500 U.S. troops that he has presented as the crux of a new "way forward" for U.S. forces in Iraq.

I think that Bush and his administration sit around talking and evoking names such as Roosevelt, Truman, Andrew Jackson, and Abe Lincoln and comparing those great presidents to this administration. I think that they honestly believe they know better than everyone else and that history will ultimately judge them as visionaries and equals to the aforementioned presidents.

There were protests when he came to our small city of 20k during his re-election campaign. They garrisoned us in a "free speech zone" and if we left that zone we'd be arrested... no lie.

I guess there's actually going to be a protest tomorrow (DC ? I'm not sure) around 11 AM.

"free speech zone" is an oxymoron.

Congress better step up their pressure on the President. Congress has the power to declare war and provide funding for troops, not the President.
