being there vinyl

Recommended Posts

finally got a turntable after 15 years without one. picked up the readily available wilco lps and was bummed that the pressing of being there was screwed up during "misunderstood." during the quiet part about 2 minutes in there is sound drop out and then it's garbled. having had the cd for over ten years i ken this wasn't right. fortunately, my local record dealer let me return it. i later ordered the new 180g import pressing which states "from the original master tapes" on the label. it sounds much different than the us pressing and teh cd. much more dynamic and in your face. the cymbals are way too bright for my taste but i think that must be how it was recorded or maybe they boosted the high end when mastering this new lp release? anyone have any ideas on this? couldn't find anything in the archive on this topic. anyone have similar problems with their us vinyl being there?

I've got Being There on vinyl, and it sounds fine. I actually thought it sounded fresher than the cd.

did you ever notice that glitch in the first part of "misunderstood?" maybe about 2 minutes in. i think there has been more than one us pressing of this so it may be distinct to the more recent pressing.

I'll let you know in a week, just sent payment for an original pressing still sealed! Should be here in 4-7, man I'll be disappointed if the sound is worse. I also bought the YHF/AGIB 180g package for Xmas, I listen to them ALL THE TIME now after having officially declared myself "sick" of both on CD.

My question: If I buy the new Wilco in May on Vinyl how can I get the inevitable free downloads? I really want to hear it first on vinyl, I've always bought the Cd in the store the day it comes out, then got around to buying vinyl. With AGIB and Sunken Treasure you must have the actual CD to access the DL's If I have bought the album on vinyl should I not have access to the DL's

Congrats on your new turntable, i bought mine about 2years ago, like you with about ten years in between, still had all my old vinyl(some in not so great shape) and now i can't buy it fast enough :music

unfortunately, my vinyl collection was ruined when the ex mother in law decided to store it in the attic. and no that's not why i dumped the previous wife :D

maybe wilco will go with included download codes with the vinyl like matador did with the last ylt lp.

Also my being there vinyl sounds fine. Wasn't blown away by the sound or anything but no complaints. no glitch on misunderstood either.

I know The Shins included a coupon for a free digital download of their new album inside of the vinyl pressing. It seems that bands that press their records on vinyl are starting to make this move. Hopefully, Wilco will follow suit and allow people who buy the new one on vinyl to get a free digital download along with it.

that'd be cool. I would buy both any way tho. It'd be cool if there was a non cd bonus or something with the vinyl.

Generally, its much more dynamic on vinyl. Depends on the rig though. Unfortunately to get into the vinyl game you need to have a turntable/cartridge thats $300 plus. If its shitty stuff or improperly set up, CD will beat it everytime. Vinyl has advantages, and they cannot be realized on a plastic turntable.

I might try to hold your horses on the SBS vinyl dreams, as AGIB and YHF didn't have vinyl counterparts for about five months after their initial release. And by that point, any extra downloads will have been posted on here five or six times already. :lol

I have posted this before, but I find the German 180 gram import very enjoyable. I think it sounds better than the redbook cd release. It can be had from specialty online vinyl retailers like ElusiveDisc or Acoustic sounds. The US presses of everything prior to YHF are nothing to get excited about or pay for, other than the collectible value. For instance Summerteeth is a very compressed digital recording and ownign it in it's current state isn't worth the cost. The two most recent studio records were done well on Sundazed 180 gram pressings and are double disc sets. $25 for 2 180 gram LPs is a decent price and well worth it if your goal in aquiring them is for audio reasons.

I anticipate the earlier WB releases being remastered in the analog domain and available again readily on vinyl in the not too distant future. These will be better than the previous versions currently available. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, I would pick up "All Over the Place" as it is indeed rare, and all subsequent boots of those songs were sourced from the vinyl release.
