I know the basic chords of the song for the verses, but I have trouble figuring out what he plays in-between the verses at solo shows. Does anyone know what he does?

Same problem here.

The basic chords are really easy, but I have trouble with the picking in the intro part (G-D-C).

It sounds so good, but I can't figure out what Jeff's playing.

Looking a my post above, I think the run on the G-string during the C chord is what makes the song (sonically) for me.

 

Plus, your xxx323 chord sounds off to me.

sorry. i made a mistake. it's xx0232 ..... not xx0323.... if you look at Jeff fingers...think my version is closer...

You're both pretty. This seems an example of people talking past each other. I think Anthony has a good tab of the recorded version, and Fragile makes a good tab of a live version (with the correction noted below). I really don't hear the D7 lick in the recorded version (though a piano jumps in at the exact moment it would be there so it's hard to tell). But its definitely there in that live version, though I think Fragile missed the string in a couple places (I don't have my guitar so this is mostly a guess):
