LouieB
Auditorium, no?Right...bad memory... The Decemberists are playing there (officially called the "Jay Pritzker Pavilion") in July with the Grant Park Orchestra as part of the Grant Park Music Festival. I'm not a big fan, but this might be cool. The setup and sound there is unreal.Well this figures!! Actually there are all kinds of cool events that do take place at the Pritzker, so that is not to say Wilco or other more rock oriented stuff can't happen (the jazz series last year was very fun, what I saw), but generally if they feel the audience will be rowdy they won't book stuff there. I guess Decemberists fans don't really count as a rock audience, particularly if it is a Decemberists with strings event. What is the date on this? Usually the events at Pritzker (as at Grant Park) are free. LouieB

watchtower41
Elton John played Pritzker last summer, but this was for a private function for Allstate insurance. The main problem with booking major acts at Milennium is the foilage. Can't expect the city to ruin their brand new mutli billion dollar park by allowing thousands of inconsiderate concert-goers there. The biggest factor on why we wont see anything big there anytime soon: 2016.
Preferred B
They should play in Kenosha. At the Sesquicentennial Bandshell in Pennoyer Park.

I did get a big kick out of the 2016 reference though....by then Millenium park will not be the attraction it is now anyway or at least the money being brought in by the Olympics will offset any damage to the grass or shrubs. Artifex
Auditorium is not as bad as you say it is. The acoustics are great and the seating is not bad. I saw Bob Dylan pretty far back, but they were good seats. The only bad thing is I forgot my glasses, so his head seemed like an alien. But I think it's great venue in Chicago. I dunno. Maybe it's just because Im 19, and the vast majority of the shows I go to are local and small....I still like being in the thick of it.
WaronWar
Same here. I am 18 and I like general admission better because then I can get up closer, but it is an amazing sight seeing a show at the Aud Theatre.
Guest AndreaO
I would guess some nights at the Auditorium. No inside info though, just a guess.LouieB I used to be a Chicagoan, and am trying to recall the Auditorium you guys are referring to, but it escapes me..Which Venue is that again? I'd definitely consider flying in for a Chicago show if I knew about it in time...

I am 18 and I like general admission better because then I can get up closer, but it is an amazing sight seeing a show at the Aud Theatre. Its the Auditorium Theater at Roosevelt University on Wabash. I know the theater had been renovated in recent years and its a possibility that shows were not being booked at the time you lived here. Kicking_Television
I love the Auditorium for sound, it has the best in the city. As for the view, anything in Orchestra is amazing, and the front of the first balcony. Anything other then that is pretty far and high. i saw teh white stripes there and wasn't that impressed with the sound... musta been the white stripes fault.
LouieB
i saw teh white stripes there and wasn't that impressed with the sound... musta been the white stripes fault. The Auditorium is an acoustic hall, originally designed for when there was no amplification. I am amazed at how badly some groups fare in large halls when they employ alot of amplification. LouieB

candyfloss1214
That's pretty cool. An outside summer show that's not at Whatever that Place is Called Now in Tinely Park would be awesome. The Cure and Flaming Lips shows this summer, too...
