Big Perm
I took my first surfing lesson this past Saturday, great way to spend my first full day here in Los Angeles, it was tough, quite a workout, but I think I have the bug. anyone else surf?
quarter23cd
I tried it for a while when I was a yoot. Never got very good b/c I didn't live close enough to the shore to practice with any consistency. Always wished I was better at it. Nowadays I'm landlocked in the midwest, and am trying to decide how badly I will be laughed at as a tremendous dork if I try to use my skimboard at the nearby lake. El Picador
I just moved back to Southern California after 12 years away and am just getting back into it. It's more of a workout than it seemed when I was a kid. I've been running in the mornings and going to the gym so I can build up some endurance to surf. I live 5 minutes from a great spot but it's a little rough for me right now. Newport is a perfect spot because there is not much paddling required. Anyway, I love to surf and look to be doing a lot more in the future.
Moltisanti
I grew up going to Cocoa Beach, but the surfing bug never really bit me as a kid. I kind of regret it now. I can't get enough of watching surf documentaries like Step into Liquid or Endless Summer.
OOO
I just do the bogeyboard lying down thing. It's fun enough for me.
El Picador
I just bought my 6 year old son a boogie board and I'm in the process of teaching him to ride waves on it. Yesterday was our first experience and he had a blast. He went today with his uncle while I sit here and work away.

caliber66
I attempted to surf in the James River once. It did not go well. When he was a teenager, my dad was surfing with a guy who had his nose severed (nearly completely) from his face by his board's fin after he wiped out. Kinda killed it for me, not that we ever lived near the ocean...
Papillon Parade
Check out John From Cincinnati on HBO, it's a surfing based show..pretty wicked. We have winter surfing here in Nova Scotia which is VERY cold. I don't surf myself, but always liked the culture.
