RICHARD SWIFT Supports on August Dates.

Recommended Posts

Just saw this from wilcoworld, the great Richard Swift is apparently supporting Wilco on all the August dates. For those who don't know him, he's an amazing, unique musician and songwriter that sounds kinda near Van Dyke Parks/Harry Nilsson/Beatles/Randy Newman/Ray Davies, and sometimes melancholy and lo-fi. He's got three albums, two are available as a 2xcd set (The Novelist / Walking Without Effort), which is an unbelievable deal as both are fantastic little albums. His newest, Dressed Up for the Letdown just came out this February, and is one of the best albums of the year in my opinion. I would recommend getting both packages before seeing him. I saw him open for Josh Ritter around a year ago, and he and his band put on an amazing show. I'm definately excited for this. Getting off the soapbox now. :)

did you get the 4 7"s he put out first on Velvet Blue Music?

all are great and have different versions of all the songs. the original Kisses whips the album version (although it's still great), but they lost the master tape of it. Buildings 7" has different opening drum machine beats and other stuff like that. there are a couple of songs that are b-sides that, last i heard, will never be released in any other format.

I just found this out on Last.fm, when it showed up on the page for the Duluth show. I can't wait, he's terrific. I love "Dressed Up For the Letdown", in particular "Buildings in America" - definitely one of my favorite songs of the year.

Great news!
