Wilco Worshipper
Just thought I'd give some love to PigSooie for the Youk avatar... Boston born and raised, right here (Somerville, more accurately) and love to see some other Sox fans with good music taste. Still not a fan of CQ, though. I'm a Red Sox and Wilco fan and in Mass

LouieB
Sorry for trying to relate to others, LouieB. It won't happen again. That's not the point and you know it..... This whole topic has been hashed over so often it is just downright boring. Casino Queen is what used to be called a novelty tune; a fun song that is not to be taken very seriously. It was turned into a Dylan send up for a few years also. Casino Queen is a real riverboat casino and that makes the song fun, but it isn't a masterpiece, it is just a wacky fun thing. bwhite0421
I've been watching the '99 NYC Irving dvd that's posted up on owlandbear.com, and that performance of Casino Queen is just insane. It's also the best example of the guys harmonizing on vocals really well in that particular show. Check it out if you haven't seen it! exactly where is this video found on owl and bear? all i can find is audio. thanks, B
caliber66
Guitar-wizardry is not what Casino Queen lacks. Musically, it's just about perfect for what it is - a sloppy, fun rocker. Lyrically it's a bit weak, but again, it's just a sloppy, fun rocker. The riff is what it is, and no amount of modal eighths or tranfortional carmonics or Shermer's octavatives are going to improve on it.
JUDE
I like the song and drove right by the lady a couple of weeks ago while in St. Louis.

I did try to make the topic more interesting, with the Irving show link. Which is as fresh as a rose, Louie.

Which is as fresh as a rose, Louie. Yea, I have not watched it yet. I like the song because it is so topical and midwest specific. There are leaflets for the casino and big billboards all over the metro east and St. Louis area. And the Dylan version kicks ass too. LouieB
napoleon
And the Dylan version kicks ass too. wait, ole bobby boy covered it? are you serious?
Sir Stewart
Yeah, that was confounding thing to say, Louie...What he was referring to:It was turned into a Dylan send up for a few years also.
napoleon
Yeah, that was confounding thing to say, Louie...What he was referring to: oh i see now. i was like "why in the hell would dylan cover that?" i mean, maybe a mermaid song, but not casino queen.

williemood
Sounds like a bad Rolling Stone Song. This may be my least favorite Wilco song.
