finally caught the one Halloween movie i'd never subjected myself to last night...'Curse of Michael Myers'. it's awfulness is a thing of legend in horror movie fandom and said legend proved to be true. i've never seen a movie try so hard to have a complex plotline and make so little sense. eh, it was still fun to watch.

I saw Halloween: H2O for the first time over the weekend. Seriously the worst title ever.

yep. that was on last night too, but i saw that a few years ago. i still think one of the worst ones was the installment w/ tyra and busta. my hope is that the rob zombie deal has recalibrated the franchise to stop any further sullying of it's name...but i'm sure i'm wrong.

That one, man - I saw two seconds of it last week too. Busta and Tyra toasting wine glasses in the control room of the reality show in the Myers house. Lordy.

Watched Dark Water last night (based on EL Belto's mention) - really well crafted psychological drama with a few moments of genuine creepiness. Fit my mood (hungover, exhausted) to a T, too. Now, I know Jennifer Connelly is a good actor, but there's something I don't buy about her no matter the film (except Labyrinth) - maybe she's too beautiful, maybe, but I'm not even all that attracted to her. It's something about her face. I can't place it. Her chest brains are indisputably all-time champions. Maybe that's it, but I don't think so.

I don't mean to sound judgmental or anything, but I am consistently confounded by the elevated status of Carnival of Souls among film fans. I found it horrendously awful (and awfully horrendous).

Is it an in-joke?

Maybe that's what everyone who talks it up does? Maybe? If so, that should be included in the recommendation.

I really think I might sound offensive in this line of commenting. If so, I'm sorry. The phenomenon of this movie's appeal really bugs me!

i completely agree. i do think there is a legitimate creepiness to the flick stylistically...one that you can kind of see may have inspired future releases from george romero and david lynch somewhat, but it's a slight inspiration at best.

It's definitely a b-movie, and the acting is quite laughable at times, but it still works for me overall due to its idiosyncratic style and overall tone. Herk creates a bizarre and alienated world for the lead character. His use of B&W cinematography and organ music helps to heighten this mood. It isn't all that scary, but it does have some elements of creepiness to it, especially the girls lecherous neighbor who is much creepier than the dead people as far as I'm concerned. I guess the problem with this film is that it has been praised too much, so people expect more than they should.

Watched this one last night (a film deserving of high praise):
