a.miller
I'll cast my vote for shaving in the shower. I have tried every damn kind of fog-free and anti-fog mirror you can find. My consensus is that none of them are going to last more than a year -- the mirroring seems to just slowly wear down. However, my current model hooks into the water line coming out of the wall. Not a big deal to install -- off with the shower head, on with the mirror, back on with the shower head. The thing stays remarkably fog-free. I use the Edge shave gel with a Fusion (98-blade) razor. I get no bumps, nicks or rash. The last two years I have had to (unfortunately) shave every day and noticed I get a lot more in-grown and infected hairs on my face -- ick. Anyone have a solution to this? Also, how about using one of those fancy razors in the shower that the OP mentioned? Is this wise? Seems like something I could drop and cut any number of body parts on it's way to the shower floor.
Mrs. Peel
At least you'll make Peel happy. I'm going to have to submit this thread for market research. The bosses will be especially glad to hear the phrase "no name BICs".

This one also suggests that you "use a single-blade razor." I can't vouch for that personally, as I'm not experienced yet. As for the second part--all I can say is that people do it. I don't know if there's much extra danger. They are called safety razors, after all. The thing is, there's a limited gap where the razor is exposed and it can only cut you at certain angles. It's certainly possible to hurt yourself that way, but how many times have you dropped your razor?
Mrs. Peel
Oh, and I'm pretty sure Gillette still does animal testing, so Jorge, if you do go back to disposables, I've gotcha covered. You can rip your face open with Bic instead.
Lammycat
I won't use a razor unless I know it's been tested on a cat and proven to leave a smooth, close shave.
squarewave
why shave? Why shave?? To remain employable would be the first answer... http://forums.viachicago.org/style_emotico...ault/tongue.gifSecond answer is to avoid the inevitable itchy phase of beard growing. Lotions, hair conditioners, I have tried them all... I hate when my face gets all itchy... I have been using the old standby of the Gillette Good News twins... No pivoting, and no BS... just two sharp blades that are easy to rinse clean, and I control the angle and the pressure. I went Mach3 for a while when that was new, but the extra dough is not justified IMO. Also, FWIW, the practice of rinse under hot water after each stroke is a MUST to get the long life out of the razors, IMO.
theashtraysays
Why shave??Because I have enough gray hair already without growing new ones. I'm happy with my gray hair, but not looking to actively add to the collection, mind you.
squarewave
This thread has me wanting to buy another razor!! I am lewaning toward the Edwin Jagger "light horn" handled safety razor...(note to vegans and tree huggers, it's FAUX animal horn made from polyester resin) Or should I venture into the World of Fusion or Sensor3 and get a cartridge model?? Reni
I have to say that since Graham has started using the old fashioned safety razors, his face has never been smoother and softer. Oh and that soap smells SO GOOD!
Duck-Billed Catechist
Oh yeah. There is a lady who sells high-quality homemade shaving soaps on ebay for $3 a puck. Pretty neat.

Duck-Billed Catechist
I don't believe that was on a two-pass day, but you can see quite clearly that I am glowing.
Spawn's dad
I'm using that yuppie 5 blade set up on face and legs and am shocked at how close the shave is. I find the cartridges last a few weeks before they get too dull to use.
Reni
I tried Graham's safety razor on my legs last night - I have never had such ease shaving my legs. I am sold.
NightOfJoy
Never have I used shaving cream. I just use one of those Bic disposables and go to town! (full disclosure-I'm pretty sure it'd take me 10 years to grow a full ZZ Top-like beard)
