marino13
Yeah, how dare a rock star actually have fun and enjoy being in front of the camera/audience? Fun is good, it's just that her brand of fun is very annoying for me to watch. The boy bands and the Fergie's of the world always seem to be having fun and enjoy being in front of the camera, but they annoy the shit out of me too. Wilco and My Morning Jacket, my two favorite bands, seem to have fun, but they don't annoy me. However, I understand how Pat's showboating or Jim James' headbanging could be annoying to others. Personal choice I guess. All that being said, if I was ever at an Arcade Fire show, and I saw them play Tunnels and Wake Up, I'm sure I would piss my pants and cry like a baby. I doesn't help that I don't like her voice, either. But everything else about the band was great, I thought.
solace
her voice has gotten way better since the first record though. she sings in key now

That's funny because to me, Wilco and MMJ usually look like they would rather be at the dentist then onstage. I guess we need to now define what it means to look like you're having fun. A smile once in a while works for me.

Jim was sick for quite a while when that was filmed. Don't get me wrong. They rip it up on that movie but I sure wouldn't say it looks like they're having fun. It looks like they are working really hard which I totally appreciate. As far as Tweedy goes, I've seen him have fun onstage but let's be honest, he isn't known for his "fun" attitude live. Mr. Kinsley
Ever since I was a kid I've hated apricots. (Stick with me, there is a point eventually.) But every summer when they're nice and ripe and in season I try them. Why? Because I've always figured 'there's nothing wrong with the humble yet noble apricot, it must be me that has the problem and I must keep trying them until I like them.' Oh, sure, I like apricot jam and dried apricots, but raw, unadulterated apricots - I can't explain it, I just hate them. Fast forward to the present. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, that I know and whose musical opinion I respect adores Arcade Fire. I've never seen the big deal, but I keep trying. I'll go on iTunes and sample songs. I'll go to the listening station at music stores and listen to them. I've got a few songs of theirs through various compilations and mixes from friends. But a song here and there is a bit like Arcade Fire jam/dried Arcade Fire. That I can handle. Watching a concert is raw Arcade Fire. Presently I'm about 1/2 way through the ACL performance and I'm hoping that this is neither ripe nor in season Arcade Fire, because I'm ready to spit them out. One thing that I've learned from viewing this performance so far is that there are a lot of people in this band that require medication - and apparantly they're very forgetful. And there sure are a lot of them. Me thinks Winn (that is his name, right?) has a hard time saying no to people. "Hey, man. Can I be in the band too? I can jump on the French Horn player's back and beat him with a tambourine!" "Uh... ok." So my question for you is this - what am I missing? Am I just too uptight to see the "fun" in running around and beating on stuff and/or climbing up on other band member's backs? Is there some sort of literary reference in Regine's poses/gyrations? What is it that has drawn you to this band? I'm ready to give them yet another chance, I just need to know what to look for.
Sir Stewart
I've just gotten into them this year - I was turned off by the fawning that went on when Funeral came out. I've never seen them live or seen/heard recorded performances,* only the albums. So, from my point of view, it's possible to like them solely for their music. *except that Springsteen show

blindgonzo
I thought Funeral was a great album. Haven't bit yet on Neon Bible. I agree with you on Funeral. Neon Bible has some of my favourite AF songs yet, including Ocean of Noise, Intervention, and My Body is a Cage, but I don't love many of the other songs. As an album, I don't think it's great. TheMaker
Which is weird to me... I'm one of roughly nine people planetwide who seems to think the second record coheres stunningly. Win's asking a lot of questions here, and there's something of a questing nature to Neon Bible. Like a lot of young Americans (yeah, the band is Canadian, but Win and Will aren't), he knows what he doesn't want, but he's not quite sure what he's looking for. Almost all of the songs reinforce this view, from Black Mirror to Antichrist to Windowsill and beyond. Even the few songs that stray from this theme seem to have an exuberant, almost desperate sound to them, e.g., the No Cars Go remake and The Well and the Lighthouse. bjorn_skurj
I imagine it's a good album, but I'm just not in the right mood for it.

Artifice
well, like i said, i guess i feel a bit bad for people who don't "get it", that's all. i don't mean that in a condescending way or anything, just that i wish you/everyone could share in the joy that is their amazing live show . like i said, of the 1000+ concerts i've seen, they are easily a top 10 live band for me, no question. and the mix sounds great on the HD rip i downloaded (the audio level is low, but that's it)someone on arcadefire.net captured an HD rip. this is a downsized copy of that: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZV5RXQHP hoping to get a full size/quality HD DVD of it eventually Thank you thank you for posting that link! I think I just fell in love with them again. That was fantastic. The energy was tremendous!
MattZ
their antics are just whatever they are feeling like doing, there's nothing planned or calculated about it. Except the antics happen all the time at every show. So maybe one specific instance of "antic" isnt planned, but the whole package certainly is. Which means they all are. It is certainly a controlled and planned chaos. Some people get turned off by that. I happen to think they're great -- on the albums and live. I just have a hard time believing that all these "unplanned" things you speak of are really as spur of the moment as you suggest. I don't care, although others seem to, and I suppose I can understand why.
Guest Jules
FYI, this is on in HD in the Chicago (Comcast) area tonight. I don't think it was aired in HD over the weekend.
mgsooner
I too watched this and thought it was amazing, although I did find some of Regine's theatrics to be a bit excessive by the end. There's only so much posing and sneering you can do before you start to look like a fool.

I don't care, although others seem to, and I suppose I can understand why.right, but i'm just saying that for the most part it's not calculated or planned out ahead of time or anything. stuff usually just happens and if they get a good reaction it may and often will carry over from show to show. i've seen them 13x now since 2004, i've seen them do different things almost every show, but yes, some stuff is similiar from show to show on occasion, i'll give you that. they're still a very very dynamic live act however. the antics rarley even phase me anymore, unless it's something super unique (like Will climbing a 60' lighting rig at Berkeley, running clear to the back of the arena and hanging over a ledge with a floor Tom, etc.) i suppose i'd agree that it's "controlled" (most of the time anyway...) chaos, but to me "planned" means they sit around during down times and think up things to do on stage during their shows, and i can tell you that just doesn't happen much honestly. a couple of them likely have ideas in their head, for sure, won't deny that. solace
Holy cats. What do you people call yourselves? Arcadebrains? Fireheads?lol. some people on arcadefire.net call hardcore AF fans "moths", since they used to use pictures of them on their old website and in other artwork. i should note that 10 of those were this year (that probably just makes me look worse doesn't it? )
