Red Eyed & Blue

Here is one of my favorite tunes from BT. It is a fun song to play (especially solo acousic) becuase of the walking bass lines (up & down).

Notes, Tips & Disclaimers:

1. Use you index to barre those A6 chords and use your fingers and thumb to walk the bass lines.

2. For the fingering of the A*: I use pinky on 2nd, ring on 3rd, middle on 4th then index hammers on the 1st.

3. I cannot take credit for this tab. I consolidated it from others off the internet and sanded off any rough edges.

4. As always, a song is not good until you make it your own. Treat the above riffs/chords as themes to play around with.

5. All feedback, corrections, comments, flames are welcome!

for the post "red-eyed & blue" last lyric of the song Riff, i usually do

 

5 5 5 0 2 5 5 5 0 2 1 and then an E chord. in other words, i slide down to one at the end of the riff. i believe this is what's down in the album version as well.

 

actually, i like to play open 5th string in stead of 5 on the 6th string. i like the loose open string sound better.

The A* should really be considered A-Adim6 (I think that's the correct chord name).

 

Also, from what I can tell from Tweedy, on the intro to the outro section:

It's just more chord-y and the chords are in there to beef the whole thing up a bit.

It's an Aaug, A+, or A(#5). all mean the same thing. Not sure if it's how Jeff plays it but I raise both e's in the A chord to the f and then to the f# as in

Thats the same thing I came up with for that section and I think it sounds pretty good.

is it just me or do the Fm and Em on "All I wanted to say" sound totally off? I think he keeps playing a Dm there then switches to something else...

 

not just you, man. it's never sounded quite right to me either. i think the Em is right, but that Fm seems off. i've tried pretty much everything other chord there it can't find the right one. my guess is it's some variation of an F or Fm though.

The Fm should be a Dm7, and the Em should be a Dm6.
