Wilco Worshipper
So I just wanted to let you all in on what some of my friends and I are doing this year, in case you want to be included. From our standpoint, 2007 was pretty much overall the worst year in a lot of people's lives that we love and care for so much. So to help it all go away and make room for what can only be a much BRIGHTER & HAPPIER New Year, this is what we are planning to do... At midnight tomorrow, we will have a little fire going on outside my house where we will stand in the snow (whether we end up with 4 inches or a foot tonight...lol) and burn away all the misery that has befallen so many people. What I've been doing is collecting little slips of papers from co-workers and friends. They have written anything from unexpected deaths to people diagnosed with cancer to hopes for some current problem to be fixed sometime in the coming year. So I invite all of my fellow VC'ers to join in if you wish. You could write general statements here or send me PM's, whichever is easier for you. If you don't want to share too much, you can even write "Mom" or "daughter" or something like that. I will make up papers for you and add them in to the fire. Just so you know mine start with the following: My best friend finding out she can never have her own childrenGood friend from high school finding out she had breast cancer (she's only 37)Good friend (only 20) who's Mom passed away from a very long fight with breast cancer which eventually spread to her brainHigh school teacher being diagnosed with breast cancerManager/friend at work having a re-occurrence of cancerOwner/friend at work having serious heart problemsMother being hospitalized twiceMy daughter's friend's older brother being killed in Iraq So you get the idea... Like I said, 2008 can only be BETTER...it just HAS TO!!! And to everyone no matter what I do wish you all the Happiest of New Years!!!

froggie
2007 was the worst of my life too... as for the fire, we seriously have a total fire ban in our state today (up to 43'C with strong wind)
RaspberryJam
On a related note, you can go to www.timessquarenyc.org and write a wish for the new year. They will print it up as a piece of confetti that will come down at Times Square on the new year.

I think that was the worst thing that happened to anyone I know in 2007. No one I know really likes the Mets.

Edie
Despite the last few days, my year has also been pretty good. I think our entire world needs healing though, so if you can put in a thought that "needless suffering can begin to come to an end in '08", that would be great. Guest Speed Racer
Congratulations, happy new year, and thank you! My attempt at doing something similar would have spawned the curse of 2008, given my luck with fire.

Wilco Worshipper
This seemed to work for A LOT of people last year and we've had requests to do it again this year. So I figured I'd give everyone here a week rather than just the two days like last year. So again...whether you want to write it here or send me a PM, I'll be more than happy to burn your worries away for you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
