How to introduce Wilco to a couple of Metalheads

Let's Not Get Carried Away.

Thanks

That wasn't so hard now was it.

I figured it was something I should know.

My guess is that my humor will improve with a lessening of the pain I am currently experiencing.

relax.

:monkey

Relax don't do it

When you want to go to it

Relax don't do it

When you want to come

Relax don't do it

When you want to come

When you want to come

Relax don't do it

When you want to to go to it

Relax don't do it

When you want to come

Relax don't do it

When you want to suck to it

Relax don't do it

When you want to come

Come-oh oh oh

But shoot it in the right direction

Make making it your intention-ooh yeah

Live those dreams

Scheme those schemes

Got to hit me

Hit me

Hit me with those laser beams

I'm coming

I'm coming-yeah

Relax don't do it

When you want to go to it

Relax don't do it

When you want to come

Relax don't do it

When you want to suck to it

Relax don't do it (love)

When you want to come

When you want to come

When you want to come

Come-huh

Get it up

The scene of love

Oh feel it

Relax

Higher higher

Hey-

Pray

LNGCA...

LNGCA

Congratulations. You have just pushed one of my pet peeve buttons. (Please excuse the following rant, but my neck and knee are hurting, I didn't get much sleep last night, and you won the 'piss off crow lottery'.)

So...LNGCA isn't ringing any bells. So, I go to the iPod to pull up my wilco albums...none match. LNGCA...Is it really that hard to type the song name? Or is it some sort of key to hipness to know or invent acronyms for every song, every album, every name, every venue...?

What is being done here is exclude me (and other acronymally challenged board members) from a reasonably interesting and enjoyable thread.

Like I noted above...I hope my tone isn't too pissed off. It's been a really tough couple of weeks.

Sorry to hear you're having a rough time.

ANYWAY, I don't know that I've ever gotten actively upset at acronym usage, but I wanted to confess that I, too, have struggled with this terrible affliction of being "acronymally challenged." When I first joined the board, I remember being completely confused at the use of "IAATRBYH," even though I had just gone to see that movie. It should have been completely obvious, but had it not been for the context surrounding the usage that gave it away, I would have puzzled over it for hours. The funny thing is, I'm usually pretty good with reading comprehension, word games, etc. Just thought I'd I offer you some support. You're not alone. ;)

I'm not sure I would agree that anyone is trying to exclude those of us with this little-known condition from the conversation, but it does sometimes feel as if "speakers are speaking in code."

Guess the thing is nobody likes to feel stupid and left out.

At heart, we are all 16...I've just been 16 for 32 years.

Well played, my friend. I have had to scramble to look at the back of a CD to find out what song people are talking about.

About converting a metal head to Wilco....Isn't there that line about "don't throw your pearls at swine", haha?

Actually, I think the line is "to each his own."

I was just joking around. I like alot of metal and harder stuff too, like White Zombie, Rage Against The Machine, older Metallica, Motorhead.

I'm not affraid to admit my love for the heavy stuff too.. Man, White Zombie was awesome in their day.. Love Rage of course (especially their first album), and old Metallica.. No need to even comment on them.. Legends...

If you have a chance, check out the band "Cave In".. Their album "Jupitor" is just brilliant.. It's not all completely heavy.. Sort of Alternative/Hardcore or something.. Great band..

Yeah, I'm ornery today. Sorry about that.

Is that Geoffrey Rush in your avatar? Looks like an actor we know in Providence.

I dig it. I can be ornery myself. I am one of those brooding artistic types......

In my avatar that is David Lynch, the director/super cool film and sometimes TV guy. He is best known for Twin Peaks (the TV mini series), Blue Velvet, and a few more gems.

Ah - I knew I wasn't right. I didn't get Mulholland Drive at all.

On topic, I bet those metalheads wouldn't either.

Yes, Mr. Lynch has frequently left me thoroughly confused, but entertained nonetheless.

Thanks for the help, I just burned a whole lotta shit from KTV and threw, LNGCA (lets not get carried away :) ) in there for good measure.

It's not that important that they fall in love with it, but in my mind liking wilco is inevitable, might as well smooth the transition :) everybody see's the light eventually...

... somebody respond: "what light?"

you could always lie to them and play Train, That Year, Flatness and Gun, and say its Wilco!

haha, that'll be the fall back plan

i'm thinking they'd probably dig spiders right? or at least appreciate the guitar work

I would definitely go with EW from SBS which was recorded at the L in the CHI in the state of IL (you can get there by taking the EL).................now I'm just getting carried away.

Cause, you know -- it rocks -- and maybe they love wilco, maybe they don't. Either they will or they won't.

If that doesn't work, build up your musical cred by telling them the band Train's earlier stuff is really kickass, and you broke your hand during a beatdown at a Maroon 5 mosh pit. :pirate
