I need a little help from my VC friends.

I am working on putting together Hummingbird (Jeff's solo acoustic version) and I am missing a chord. See below. I suspect it is Dm (xx0321), but I am not convinced.

For those playing along, I am listening to the 04-06-2007 show. Jeff plays it mostly palm-muted, but they chords are clear, I think.

So if someone can be so kind a take a listen and figure out my missing chord, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, check out the rest of the progression and let me know if you have any feedback.

Thanks in adance.

Wilco - Hummingbird (JT Solo version)

Tuning: Standard / no capo

A Amaj7

A Amaj7 C#m

His goal in life was to be an echo.

F#m F#m7

Riding alone town after town,

Bm

toll after toll,

Dm

A fixed bayonet through the great southwest

A Amaj7

to forgive her.

A Amaj7 C#m

She appears in his dreams,

F#m F#m7

but in his car and in his arms, a dream could be

Bm

anything,

Dm

a cheap sunset on a television set

C

could upset her,

E

he never could.

A Amaj7

Remember to remember me,

F#m A7

Standing still in your past,

D ??

Floating fast like a hummingbird,

A Amaj7

A Amaj7 C#m

His goal in life was to be an echo

F#m F#m7

a type of sound that floats around and then back down

Bm

like a feather

Dm

In the deep chrome canyons of the loudest Manhattans

C

No one could hear him

E

or anything.

A Amaj7 C#m

So he slept on a mountain

F#m F#m7

In a sleeping bag underneath the stars, he would lie awake

Bm

and count them,

Dm

the gray fountain spray of the great Milky Way

C

would never let him

E

die alone.

A Amaj7

Remember to remember me,

F#m A7

Standing still in your past,

D ???

Floating fast like a hummingbird,

A Amaj7

Remember to remember me,

F#m A7

Standing still in your past,

D ???

Floating fast like a hummingbird,

E

A hummingbird...

I've not heard the track in question, and I hate when people respond to something without really knowing what they're talking about, and I hate hypocrisy, but I also really love hating myself so here goes: it might be that the chord right before the mystery chord is the problem. In the generally accepted tab version of Hummingbird, the chord before the mystery chord (transposed to the right key) would be an Aaug and the mystery chord would be a D.*

Since, I've not heard this version, I have no idea if I'm right, but this might get you moving in the right direction.

* or, depending on the transcriber (transcribe? read that over, it'll make sense) an Aaug7 or Aaug7/C# then a D

First and second chorus follow this:

 F#m C#m
Remember to remember me,
F#m A7
Standing still in your past,
Dmsus2 A
Floating fast like a hummingbird

Third chorus is this:

A Amaj7
Remember to remember me,
F#m A7
Standing still in your past,
Dmsus2 D
Floating fast like a hummingbird,
E
A hummingbird...

Dmsus2:
-0-
-3-
-2-
-3-
-0-
---

I am pretty certain about that.

I am no music theory expert, but I believe x03230 should be called Dmadd9.

High five! That is most correct.

A chord can't be suspended and minor, the suspended means the third is either replaced by a 4th or a 2nd. If it has both a 2nd (aka 9th) and a third, it's an add9!

Thanks to everyone who put together this tab, here is my two cents on the chorus....

After checking out a some vids (here is another http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sezuASHjQ60) I say...

A Amaj7

Remember to remember me,

F#m A7

Standing still in your past,

Dmadd9 D

Floating fast like a hummingbird

Is the way to go for every single chorus, I could be wrong but this chorus sounds the best guitar wise to my ears, good luck and thanks!
