Recommended Posts

i've heard this is going to be reissued. has anyone else heard this? if so, have you any details? i've got their other cd's, (was really pleased to recently get The Day Before Wine & Roses, the rare radio station concert on cd) wish i could get this one. keep getting outbid on Ebay. i've never actually heard this album at all. very frustrating. any info would be most gratefully received. :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup

I did a quick internet search and found a blog where you can download it. If you love the ragged glory that is The Days of Wine & Roses, then Medicine Show might take some getting used to - Produced by Sandy Pearlman, it's much, much slicker. I never bought it when it came out (although I have a few songs that were on the Dream Syndicate comp. that came out in the early 90's), but I remember when the cutout bins were flooded with vinyl & cd copies.

I love Steve Wynn...but if I remember Medicine Show is a little sparse on the Gem's. I think I remember enjoying Out of The Grey a lot. Where did you hear the re-issue info?

btw- I haven't been able to listen to Steve Wynn since The lead singer of House of Freaks was murdered (They played a lot together in Gutterball...Wynn's best stuff in my mind)...I still get chills when I think about that.

i agree about the gutterball stuff, really tremendous

and i felt the same as you with wynn after that horrible tragedy in richmond. i was totally devastated

i met steve a few months ago and we had a nice talk about everything that happened & it was therapeutic for me -- he has just started playing some gutterball songs (i think he did When you Make up Your Mind the night i saw him - phenomenal song), and even though i still can't listen to gutterball, seeing steve perform -- and he's just phenomenal live -- got me listening to steve's solo stuff again

tell me ... when it's over

Any Dream Syndicate/Wynn fans live in Spain? From SteveWynn.net:

This September marks the 30 year anniversary of the release of The Days of Wine and I’m excited to say The Dream Syndicate will be commemorating the date by reforming for a handful of shows in Spain, the first time that Dennis Duck, Mark Walton and I will have performed as the Dream Syndicate since we walked off stage at the I-Beam in San Francisco back in 1988. We’re going to be joined for these dates (and very possibly some more beyond) by Jason Victor who has so ably carried the torch of the guitarists who have played these songs with us before. I’m really looking forward to these shows and I hope that some of you will have the chance to come down and see them for yourselves.

Steve Wynn on The Dream Syndicate reunion, upcoming tour — and new music

Quotes:

WYNN:  I think more will happen down the line. We really wanted to do the Wilco festival because it’s a great festival. We wanted it, and they wanted to have the exclusive for the first show we were going to do (in the U.S.), and that was fine by me.

WYNN: Yeah, we’re fans of the band, and Nels (Cline, Wilco’s guitarist) and I are old friends. Nels and I were actually working together at Rhino Records in L.A. when Days of Wine and Roses came out, so it’s a nice kind of full circle thing to be able to play a show with them. Once we get through this show, we’ll probably do more down the line.
