Poor Places (YHF demo version) for solo acoustic guitar

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a tab for this or can direct me to where it is on the site.

Thanks

If you do a search, there's a good amount of stuff. In addition to your request, the Bb open version from IATTBYH and the cool riff they do live now. :thumbup

This is not the IATTBYH version, but it is how I play it solo:

Poor Places by Wilco

Capo on the 3rd fret.

Verse:
(Hold each for a 2 count)
G D Em C A7 A7 C C
It's my fathers' voice dreaming of sailors sailin' off in the mornin'
	G D Em C	A7 A7 C C
For the air-conditioned rooms at the top of the stairs
G D Em C A7 A7 C C
His jaw's been broken, his bandage is wrapped too tight
G D Em C A7 A7 C C
His fangs have been pulled and I really wanna see you tonight

	G D Em C A7 A7 C C
There's bourbon on the breath of the singer you love so much
  G D Em C A7 A7	C C
He takes all his words from the books that you don't read anyway
G D Em C A7 A7 C C
His jaw's been broken, his bandage is wrapped too tight
G D Em C A7 A7 C C
His fangs have been pulled and I really wanna see you tonight

G D Em C A7 A7 C C
Someone ties a bow in my backyard to show me love
G D Em C A7 A7	C C
My voice is climbin' walls, smoking, and I want love
G D Em C A7 A7 (fill) C C
My jaw's been broken, my heart is wrapped in ice
G D Em C A7 A7 C C
My fangs have been pulled and I really wanna see you tonight

G D Em G7
And it makes no difference to me
C Am7 G A
How they cried all over on the seas
	  C Cm G (Fill*)
When it's hot in the poor places tonight
Eb C G
I'm not goin' outside

Bb F G(m) Eb C(7) Eb
Use this opportunity here to throw on hammer-ons and pull-offs...this is nothing to be strictly followed, make something up for yourself...more or less based off of the key solo near the end of the KTV version of Poor Places:

---------------------- -- -- ----------------------------
---------------------- -- -- ----------------------------
---------------------- -- -- ----------------------------
-0--h2p0---7---7-9-9-- -- -- ---5-------2---2-----5------
-0h2-------7h9p7-9-9h10h12p10p9-5-h7-p5-2-2--2----5-h7-p5
-0---------7---7-9-9-- -- -- ---5-------2--2--2-245------

  Bb F	Gm Bb7
They cried all over overseas
Eb Eb/F Bb F
It makes no difference to me
	   Gb Eb Bb C-Db-D-Bb7
When it's hot in the poor places tonight
Gb Eb Bb
I'm not going outside

  Gb Eb Bb C-Db-D-Bb7
It's hot in the poor places tonight
Gb Eb Bb
I'm not going outside
Gb Eb Bb
I'm not going outside
Gb Eb Bb
I'm not going outside

Note for the choruses: Some recordings evidence that instead of Gb Eb Bb Jeff plays Eb Ebm Bb with the same rhythm pattern. However, the repeat of "I'm not going outside" seems to remain Gb Eb Bb.

End :)

Just tried this. My guitar sounded terrible in that tuning - not like Jeff's at all; much too low and rumbly.

Are you sure that is correct tuning? Would it work another way, say, tuning to open G then capo I?

Thoughts?

Around the 00:15 mark you can hear Jeff start strumming, it's that low. Everything generally sounds terrible when the strings are that loose, but it's how it is. I think acoustics can handle it better due to their naturally thicker strings, but it's still hell to play on.

The Jeff Tweedy solo I referred to also is here (mp3 via sendspace). This version is in some sort of Open D.

Yeah, I hear it now. Just don't like it.

I like the Open D version better. Gonna try that one out now.
