PopTodd
And King is back.Cool. Like Butthole Surfers, locals Urge Overkill jumped from local indie Touch & Go for a criticized stab at the big time. Released in 1993, Saturation marked a breakthrough for Chicago rock at a time when the record industry was frantically scouring the country for another Seattle, but the band was steamrolled by its success (and the Smashing Pumpkins). Drugs and a breakup followed as disinterest grew in fair-weather fans around 1995's Exit the Dragon. The spark of a 2004 reunion failed to ignite the press, but perhaps the release of a new album will stoke some excitement. Tonight Urge is on hand to break-in the reborn Bottom Lounge, risen from the grave of the CTA's Belmont expansion to a swanky spot in the West Loop. LouieB
Yea, the last time I saw the Chamber Strings they were still stuggling. I hope they can finally get out their new album, well maybe they need to record it first... Incidently the Smoking Popes have a new album out that is very good. Their set at the Belmont Arts and Music fest Sunday night was incredibly fun and good. LouieB
remphish1
I saw Urge Overkill at the Bowery in NYC about 2 months ago! They sounded verrrrrrrrrry rusty! They did mention they were recording a new album. Although they sounded unrehersed they played some gems off Exit the Dragon which is an awesome record (Take Me, Need a Break, Someone Else's Body, Last Night/Tomrrow) along with 8 songs or so off Saturation! http://www.flickr.com/photos/nattydotorg/2454771976/

Not true ?Not exactly...they have been shopping a demo around with no luck last I heard. Then again things could change. I hope so. The new material is very good. Guest Moses
Saturation is one of my absolute favorite albums of the nineties. This is awesome.

(especially if you're a fan of the major7th) Have you heard the demos or the new material at their shows ? - PaL
mpolak21
I love Month of Sundays, it was well worth the effort to track that one down, great record. I certainly hope the Chamber Strings can find a deal and get there new one out.
cryptique
I'm kind of "meh" about UO, but I love me some Chamber Strings. Saw them play the Blind Pig here in town several years ago -- a great show. Both of their CDs still make it into my rotation from time to time. This is yet another time that I wish I were some kind of tycoon, so I could just pick up the tab for their recording expenses. I really want to hear Kevin's new stuff.

You may want to go to GloNo and watch the material over there that Whiskey Bender put up. I have not been given the demos, but I hear they are very good. LouieB
Thanks-This is part one on the Chamber Strings...there are three other parts. I have this horrible feeling that the Chamber Strings time has passed. The competition out there is fierce. LouieB

The competition out there is fierce. LouieB Oh, I hope not Louie, but you may be right... I'd been waiting on a new CD from them for years, then I stumbled upon the documentary on Glorious Noise, very sad..... My favorite was always Gospel Morning, but Month of Sundays is good too. I fell in love with their music when we saw them open for Wilco at a Pre Thanksgiving show at the Riv back in 2000 or 2001? Anyway, I loved them... I really hope they record a new one and find a label, here's hoping anyway... Happened to see Kevin Junior last year or the year before after a show at Old Town. Think it was a Graham Parker show, anyway, I stopped him to talk. I laugh about it when I think how shocked he must have been for this old woman telling him how much I loved his music....he was very very nice though...
