Advise on Tweedy/Charity

Recommended Posts

To be certain, I have no intention of using this forum to hawk Wilco collectibles. If even posting this boots me from ViaChicago, so be it. Sorry.

I am simply asking for advise on the best way to go about selling these items for charity (charity auction?).

The cause: Jeff Tweedy's nephew, Robert G. Tweedy, Jr., (Bobbie), was killed in a horrible auto accident on November 1st. He was 28. He is survived by his wife, Anne, and Ella Grace Tweedy who Anne and Bobbie brought into this world 18 months ago.

A fund has been established for Ella Grace.

The signed Wilco collectibles will be sold, and 100% of the monies received will go directly to the Ella Grace Fund. We are working on finding individuals who will match percentages of what is raised.

Again, I'm not here to sell anything. I just need some good advice.

I'll check back here should any of you be able to help guide me to assure this project succeeds.

I can be reached at stevoandkit@aol.com

I will answer all email's offering advice as well as those requesting information about how to make donations to the Ella Grace Tweedy Fund. I'll will also provide a list of the items we've gathered to date to those who request it.

Thanks,

Steve Tweedy

My condolences to you and the family. My thoughts on the auction are that if it is for a good cause, and this is, it will find support here.

Hello Steve -- my heart goes out to you and your family....

I am not a moderator here but I personally think that it is more than fine for you to list items here for auction as well as talk about how matching funds can be established here in this thread. I am hopeful that you will also find possible buyers for items. Please post updates as you get them.

Via Chicago,

The Tweedy family sincerely has been warmed by the expressions of sympathy we've received regarding the tragic , sudden death of Bobbie Tweedy, (nephew to Jeff Tweedy), on November 1. Bobbie was 28.

And we truly appreciate the many requests by Wilco fans we've received for information regarding the Ella Grace Tweedy Trust Fund charity auction, as well as information regarding direct contributions to the trust fund. Ella Grace is the 18-month old surviving daughter of Bobbie and Anne Tweedy. (Sidenote: Our family was dumbfounded to eventually learn of how generous the contributions you all made to the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization were when Jo Ann Tweedy, Jeff's and my mother, passed away a few years ago.)

The trustee for the Ella Grace Tweedy Trust Fund is a branch office of Commerce Bank and is located in the Tweedy family home town of Belleville, IL.

Endnote:

I've learned that some of the items we have so far are considered highly collectible. But I'm no expert, and I defer to those who are. Most of the posters we have are signed either by Jeff and/or by various members of Wilco. One poster has already received a lot of attention. It's an excellent condition show poster, heavy stock, from a two show Uncle Tupelo billing in Columbia, MO. (Specifics to follow.) Here's the thing that's drawing some excitement. It is signed by all three UT originals...Jeff Tweedy, Jay Farrar, and Miike Heidorn. We were all very surprised when we found this in mom's archives.

That's it. More later. Email me at stevoandkit@aol.com with any questions or thoughts.

Thanks again for the outpouring of kindness. Thanks again for being a special part of the Tweedy family for so many years.

Steve Tweedy

Steve, with items like that I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much money you'll raise for Ella Grace's fund. As you've already found out, the members here on VC are extremely generous and caring people who will do everything they can to help your family. We tend to rally around each other in times of need. That's what makes VC such a special community.
