Until I saw 'Christina's World' in person a few months ago I had no idea the girl was his disabled neighbor who struggled to get around at home. I always thought it was a young girl lounging in the grass on a summer day. It was like looking at a new piece of art after I read that.

RIP.

The museum here in town has a large collection of his work. I am an art teacher at an elementary school and the museum curator tried to get me to write him a few years ago. Now, I wish I had. After spending time with his work, I took an art class at the museum, I have a greater appreciation for his work. I know he takes a lot of flack from the art world, but I really find his artwork to be mysterious. There always seems to be something else to it.

I dunno, I'm just sad to see him go. What a curious figure in art.
