BreezyGrass
Hey all.... The wife + sister/brother in law and I are hitting Kauai this Saturday from NYC. A very much needed oasis in this cold winter. Looking for any recommendations in regards to cool bars, places, things to do, etc. We're planning to zip line, golf, beach, and partake in some lazy afternoon drinking - you know the casual vacation. Been doing a lot of research but it doesn't hurt getting tips from those that have been there and have the inside straight. . . any help much appreciated.

Been to Oahu which was awesome but can't help you on Kauai. My recommendation though is to go to virtualtourist.com. Awesome travel page with reviews from travelers and pointers of places to go everywhere in the world! I use virtualtourist religously before I travel. http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/North...uide-Kauai.html
anthony
Been to Oahu, Maui, Kauai & Big Island. Kauai is my favorite. Great beaches in the southern poipu region. Very laid back, casual. Looks like this: Good waves in the summer / fall (you might have to go northern side for waves now). Definitely drive over to the grand canyon. very cool. Near there is a boat harbor you can book sunset cruises, snorkeling, etc. I took a boat around to the north side - spectacular. Very well worth it. See stuff like this: There is a great music store with ukes, etc. called Scotty's Music on the road to the canyon / harbor. Have fun!
Party @ the Moontower
As a fantastical Massage therapist I have a package where I can accompany my clients on their adventures to be @ their beck & call for a massage session. Have table will tavel to exoctic locations kinda thing. Now wouldn't you like a free anytime massage pass for you & your family while in Hawaii? Lounging on a beach can be exhausting & hard on your traps. Stuffing ginormous amounts of the luau feast in your mouth can cause TMJ..which I can help with. I can be the gurantee you will have the time of your life pain & stress free... all I need you to do is pay for my hotel room, food, plane ticket, and a little spending $$$. Do for your health & wife. Just PM me my flight & room info asap so I can book your spot.
bleedorange
We went to Kauai and the Big Island for our honeymoon. These guide books proved to be invaluable. The people have been there repeatedly and clue you into some hidden secrets, great restaurants and bars, best beaches for snorkeling, etc., and the can't miss sights. I highly recommend it. BreezyGrass
Ahhh ukes!!! I'm so glad someone mentioned those. Any tips on buying a uke? I've been drawn to ukes by George Harrison - I've never played one so any tips on that would also be appreciated. (I have been playing guitar since age 7 so have fretboard knowledge.) So much to do before we leave - the excitement level is getting up there. Thank you all for the pics and tips. Excellent stuff!

Playing is not so bad if you know guitar. Tuning is same as guitar's top 4 strings if capo'd at 5 (i think - doing this from memory). They are pricy, but I always wanted an all-koa, island built uke. Sweet. I'll second that book recommendation, Author is funny and honest.
BreezyGrass
Got back last night...simply put it was amazing. Couldn't believe how awesome it was. It was something else and thank you for all the tips everyone. I will post pictures as soon as I upload them and figure out how to put them on here! =P I did buy a 'uke but it is not all Koa. For a new 'uke player I couldn't see paying over $600. I didn't stop at Scotty's although I passed it multiple times. I got the Uke in Old Town Koloa at a 'uke show there from a guy named Joe. Couldn't have been nicer and got a good deal with a nice case. Planning on learning more chords this week once I beat the jet lag. We did catch the Waimea Town Festival on Saturday and they had an awesome Uke contest. Some really amazing talent! It was the capper to an unreal vacation. I'll try and post those pics here and on the new photography thread as some of them came out really well and I'd love some critique as a new photog buff. Mahalo all! Update: Here's a couple of pics - I can't figure it out. Any help with uploading photos?

Update: Here's a couple of pics - I can't figure it out. Any help with uploading photos? Did you guys eat at the restaurant with the cats walking around in Old Koloa? We love that place - it has cheap eats that are pretty tasty. Also, did you happen to walk through the shopping area and see the impressionist painter James Hoyle? He has his main gallary there and he paints mainly scenes from Kauai. His stuff is amazing!
BreezyGrass
We didn't eat at the place with the cats but were basically all over that island. It is simply and amazing place! I know it sounds cliche but it kinda changed me a bit. I feel a little more lei'd back. (awful use of hawaiian). I guess that happens when one unwinds on vacation. It is a fantastic place to hang. Here are some photos. Thanks to VC'ers for helping out - i must be lagged still. Hope you enjoy: "> ">

BreezyGrass
I want to go back too! It was fantastic. I did bring back a 'uke as I said and that makes me feel I have a part of the island with me - and i'm getting pretty good on it too! =)
