saul goode
No offense, but that's bullshit. I'm 6'7 and this is always an issue. Honestly if I get their early to see a show, regardless of who it is, I'm highly unlikely to let a shorter person get in front because that just creates a domino effect. When people do ask me to move I politely decline and offer the option of them getting on my shoulders, chicks usually laugh it off and dudes get really pissed. These people will eventually slither around and find some acceptable spot. I really don't see what the big deal is, I have been to shows where bigger and taller people are in front of me and I don't bitch about it. Of the four shows I have been to I haven't noticed any over the top rudeness by the crowd. SG
remphish1
I am 6'1"..I never push my way to the front. If I get there early and I earn the front I take it (9 times out of 10 I hang back). I do howver try and be off to the side to block as few people as possible but if it will take away my enjoyment from the show or if I can't see from the sides then I go to where I can see. There are times even being 6'!" I can't even see the stage. I agree with the comments that if you let 1 go then it creates the domino effect. BTW NYC peps must be the tallest concert goers I have seen in all the cities I have seen concerts in.
watch me fall
There was this kid at the Elbow show Saturday night that must have been at least 6'5". Every so often I would watch him out of the corner of my eye not because I was stalking him but because he was standing so still. I don't think he moved the entire show. LouieB
Rudeness is just part of the being at a rock show. It is almost as if it is expected. Wilco fans are no more or no less rude than anyone else. I have been known to let smaller fans stand in front of me and I am only 5 foot 7. LouieB

Hey how was the Elbow show...Seldom Seen Kid is a great cd! Another point about concert rudeness is people who bring large pocketbooks and bookbags and they wack you all night without even caring! I try to stay sidestage as close as I can get, as to not block too many fellow concert-goer's sightlines. I could go center stage, but I don't. I make this sacrifice consciously, so I DO NOT let anybody get in front of me. I've done my good deed for the event. Short people can go find somewhere else to stand that is not in front of me. (plus, short people have no reason to live)
fatheadfred
the 6'5 tall guys who decide they need to be front and center I'm not sure how or why this would be considered rude. Tall people don't have a right to stand up close at a concert? (For the record, I'm 6'0") yeah, no shit, my friend is 6.7. He has to sit in the back. Yeah, ok. How about the question, "Are there too many people with a stick up their ass at Wilco shows?"
watch me fall
Hey how was the Elbow show...Seldom Seen Kid is a great cd! Oh man, it was seriously one of the best shows I've ever seen (with all due respect to the gods of Wilco). Guy Garvey is freaking amazing. I hope they come back to the States again soon since it seems like they've built a pretty good fan base here. I've been a fan since 2003 and this was my first time seeing them. I caught their Webster Hall NYC show back in early 2008. They keep getting better and better. Forget Myself, Leades of The Free World, Bones or You, Newborn and Tower Crane Driver are epic live! They are very very underatted and have definatley not caught on here in the USA. First time I saw them there were maybe 50 people at the show!

I saw Doves at a show like that (about 50 people). Guy said that they hadn't been to Atlanta since 2002 and he had completely lost his voice at that show and couldn't sing so they did Elbow-aoke and let audience members sing for him. As much as I love Asleep in the Back, Seldom Seen Kid is becoming more my fave, especially after reading some articles in which Guy explains the meanings behind the songs and then seeing them live. I'm not ashamed to say when they did Some Riot that I bawled like a baby. Did you know Guy has a radio show on Sunday nights on BBC 6Music? I heard about it on facebook and listened to one of the archived shows. He played some great stuff...Decemberists, Violent Femmes, Pixies, Doves, and even Jay Farrar's cover of Rex's Blues. To the topic starter sorry to hijack the thread but I am glad to find a fellow Elbow fan a much deserved band!
cryptique
I'm 6'1". On the rare occasions that I'm at a general admission show and right up on the stage, I don't let shorter people move in front of me unless it's someone I know and/or came with. That's my spot, dammit. I'm not going to apologize for being taller than average. If you can't see past me, move. That said, if I'm at a seated event, I often scrunch down a bit if there's a shorter person directly behind me. Most of my height is in my upper body, so I sit like I'm much taller than 6'1". Most of the time at GA shows there's someone taller in front of me whom I can't see around, but usually everyone's moving enough that I can catch glimpses when the gaps in front of me line up just right. DocShock
I think bald people should have to stand in the back. One thing I don't wanna see at a show is a glare from the stage lights beaming off of a bald persons head. Also people with too much hair should stand in the back as well. Dude
I've really won over a lot of hearts and minds on this one.
So Long
I'm 6'4", and have been in the front row 6 times... No one's ever complained to me. If they did I'd move. In fact, I usually ask the people behind me if they can see alright. My girlfriend is 5'0", so generally she gets dibs as well.

IRememberDBoon
Didn’t people used to body surf at early Wilco and Tupelo? Im sure they did. Some of you shoegazers must have been in the back crying Id like to have seen you folks at Tibetan Freedom Festival 98 or Woodstock 94 or Circle Jerks 85 or 6 for that matter

Livin' in New Orleans
The audience at shows never really bugs me... or maybe I just don't let it.. I can't control what others do, so I just enjoy the show and enjoy the fact that I don't look like a douche to others and the band I enjoy so much.

tv200
Now see, this is what bugs me about Nels. He's obviously the tallest in the band but he's always right up at the front of the stage. It really ticks me off when he blocks some of the light rays bouncing off Mikael. Maybe Nels should stand behind Glenn. I think I've even seen him elbow Jeff and John out of the way in his mad rush to get on stage. I'm not sure though, because I'm 6'5" I let my wife go up to the front while I go lie down in the balcony.
RaspberryJam
I'm 5'1" on a good day and I've spent 20+ years going to concerts and looking at people's backs and having skinny guys stick their elbows in my face while they drink beer. There are many, many bands that I'm not even sure what they look like. I don't ask to stand in front of tall people, but twice nice tall people have offered to let me stand in front of them. Once at Wilco and once it was another band. If you were the guy in Dublin who moved to let me around you, thank you. I wish you let my husband and myself buy you a beer. I get the whole standing your ground to keep your spot thing. I just think that if I were tall and someone short were behind me, I might feel a little weird that they can't see a thing, but if I let them stand in front of me, we would both see just fine. Dude
6'5" people are pretty rude, but not nearly as rude as 6'6" people, which would explain why Michael Jordan was such a ball hog.
