electro
Mikael Jorgensen's side project Pronto just released a new album, a collection of really lovely instrumentals. Many of the songs are from the same time period as the recently released "Unlikely Japan" and have a similar feel. Check it out on the Contraphonic Records website. Full disclosure: I worked on this project a bit (the videos), but I lurk here from time to time and noticed the long thread on the origins of 'Unlikely Japan', so thought I'd risk self-promotion and let y'all know it's out there. Hope that's cool
LouisvilleGreg
Thanks for the self-promotion. I'm really digging the song from the link. You are very spot on in the "Unlikely Japan," vibe, although that song has more of a sinister feel to it than this. My curiosity is certainly piqued, I will probably look into this. Do Pronto ever play shows?
Preferred B
They certainly do, and how timely of you to ask, LouisvilleGreg. (See 9/16.) I'm seeing them a week from today. http://www.prontosphere.com/shows/
bböp
Do Pronto ever play shows? Yeah, they're on a little Midwest/East coast tour right now in fact. I'm going to see them tonight in Philly, where they're opening for the Fruit Bats. I'm pretty sure the first half of this tour is just going to be the duo lineup with Mike and his friend Chris Girard, so I'm not sure what they're playing exactly. Probably just stripped-down versions of the All is Golden songs, if I had to guess. Greg, check 'em out if you get a chance. And p.s., Electro...love the videos for the Cheetah! electro
Thanks, Mr. Böp! Glad you dig 'em. Also, regarding LouisvilleGreg's "more sinister" comment, some of the other songs have a nice, dark vibe, making for very good autumn listening. Some of it reminds me of Air or Tortoise, and all of them get better on repeated listens. Personal bias aside, I really do love this album; listened to it probably four dozen times while making the videos, and it still hasn't worn out.
LouisvilleGreg
Holy smokes what a timely thread this has turned into. The venue here in Louisville is the #1 hipster bar in town at the moment and very small to boot. I'll do my best to make it out for that, as long as it's not too late on a weeknight. mdpoet
We caught the show here in DC. Definitely worth the price of admission. Kind of dissapointed to not get Monster, but maybe it was due to the lack of band members present. Anyway, it turned out to be a pretty late night with the Fruit Bats going on around 11:30, but totally worth the wait. Loved hearing their new stuff. And they broke out an awesome cover of INXS's Never Tear Us Apart. The guys even came out to sell their own merch.
