Good Old Neon
I'm guessing it is a decomposing sloth, but strange none the less. http://www.wishtv.com/dpp/news/strange/offbeat_cnn_cerro_azul_unidentifiable_creature_found_in_panama_20090918754_2877591

RainDogToo
Possibly a sea turtle out of its shell. I've heard the same thing said about that Montauk monster.

Gobias Industries
If it's a sloth, where's the fur? The article says it was alive when they found it (the first time)...
Good Old Neon
My guess, is that the corpse spent some time in the water before being found - that would account for the lack of fur and the bloated appearance. The “hands” are a dead giveaway, as they are identical to a three toed sloth. Plus, the veracity of the original story is in doubt. Update: additional footage has come to light, which appears to support the original, “it came toward us” claim. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aty2bKKp4CI
