gogo
Hey Sam, welcome! A very helpful VCer posted this recently: I don't know if this is still correct or not: Please login (Wilcoworld link) If you do a search in this section, you will find a lot of threads about the DVD downloads. But - I think all of those old links don't work anymore - since they changed things around on their website. I just checked that link, looks like it's a good one. So try that, you may need to create a username for Wilcoworld, but that should do it. Let us know if that doesn't work for you.
gogo
I'm looking back through the older threads on the DVD downloads, and the problem some people seemed to be having was that it's not really clear that you have to actually click on the thing that looks like you're ordering something. I think that's how it works, though, you need to Select A Product, then click Order. Then go back, and under Subscriptions, click on where it says AOAF, and the download should start. Pretty confusing.

Analogman
Maybe it was a limited time deal, or it is on some other site. I never messed with it, and I don't recall the particulars. Is one of those procedures where you have to have the disc in your player before anything happens?

gogo
I thought it was just this stuff:Ashes definitely comes up on mine. Maybe because I did order it right away? I don't know... edit: Actually, it doesn't show up in the drop-down Product list, but it does show up as if I've already ordered it. So now I don't know how I got that! Analogman
You have to put the disc in, yes?
gogo
I could download it right now without the disc. I don't remember if I needed to have the disc in to order it in the first place, though.
Analogman
Addicted To Vinyl But if you haven’t gotten it, you’ll really want to grab it this week. Anyone that purchases the DVD will receive access to downloads of all 20 live tracks contained on Ashes of American Flags. There is no time limit on this special bonus. Here’s the exclusive kicker: This week only (until 4/27) your DVD purchase will also grant you access to downloads of the full show from 2/27/08 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. That’s 48 total live tracks PLUS an amazing documentary/concert film, which was well worth the $16.99 that I paid for my copy of Ashes of American Flags. For me personally, the D.C. show has personal favorites “Handshake Drugs,” “California Stars,” AND “Via Chicago.” Score! Accessing the Washington D.C. download can be a little bit tricky to figure out – I would suggest that you should check out the how-to rundown (The link leads to a thread on Via Chicago) thanks to the fine folks over at Via Chicago. Here is what I just did: 1. Put the DVD disc in the computer CD tray.2. Wait a little bit for the disc to load.3. Right click on My Computer, hit open.4. Right click on the DVD Title (ASHES_OF_AMERICAN_FLAGS), hit open.5. Then right click on the word extras, hit open.6. After that, right click on the word extras in that folder, hit open. This will take you to the website. From there you will see: Click here to register for the bonus content. Once you are registered you'll be able to download the 20 songs featured in the film. Once you click on the above text at the Website, you will go to this page: WILCO - Ashes of American Flags (Free lifetime subscription)Bonus Content from the DVD "Ashes of American Flags" contains 20 songs from the film. WILCOWORLD - ROADCASE (Free lifetime subscription)Join to gain access to Bonus Content from past and future Wilco records, shows and projects. Follow the registration instructions you see on that page, and then follow the instructions as they are presented to you after registration. That should be it.
gogo
So very helpful! edit: I just noticed, Analogman's last post was the 100,000th reply in this forum! I'm glad it was that, and not some of the jackassery that's been going on around here lately.
Analogman
You're Welcome It could probably be better written. If someone wants to mess with it, let me know and I will replace it. I copied the instructions and posted them in the BT links thread I made (see below).

If you think that DVD isn't one of the best things Wilco's done, you're completely deaf. I can't stand whiny fans who want musicians to go back to the way they "used to be" or criticize the way they execute something. The artist is the artist- I think Mach 6 is Wilco supreme, and I think Ashes is hands down the best showing they've made. This is my opinion. Everyone is entitled to them...but you're just insulting the artist. So, you know...shut up.

A lot of people at VC feel this way, and a lot of people at VC really like Ashes. Both camps can still totally love Wilco. Despite my feelings about the DVD, I'm always more than grateful to help people access the bonus content. (Black Witcher is clearly a troll and should be disregarded.) Just wanted to point out that good people who love Wilco can still dislike Ashes.

I love my Ashes audio and film, though to be fair, I've never heard and cannot for the life of me even find Kicking Television. Is it that much better?

Ashes was discussed at length in this thread, and you can find my thoughts on the DVD (because I'm sure you're dying to know ) on page 23. The thread is a pretty good read, all in all.
