MWB
Well, she has a good point about Death Cab. That's what hurt the most!
Wilco Worshipper
I de-friended her immediately.
MWB
What's funny is I've actually talked to the dudes in Wilco more than I've talked to this chick in the years since we got outta school, yet she's on my friends list, go figure.
rhino4evr
I find this pretty funny, becuase it's true. I mean most of the stuff that teens listen to is fed to them through corporate media or American Idol these days. It's almost all garbage. When I was in high school most of the kids in my class were listening to pop garbage like Right Said Fred or Vanilla Ice, while I was discovering underground acts like Pavement and the Pixies. It's not just teenagers that wouldnt be caught dead at a Wilco show, it's a majority of the population. Which is just the way I like it.
rwilson580
Yeah, I have no problem with the world in general dismissing my bands. That way I can continue to get tickets for any Wilco show I want, and at a fraction of the price of some other artists. My bands are a big part of my identity, and my identity feels lame when a bunch of new people start showing up to join the party. Whatever those kids are listening to is just fine with me. watch me fall
So I'm guessing it's not the teenagers who are buying up tickets and selling them on ebay then. Or maybe it is...
LouieB
So does this mention in the Onion translate into ticket sales???? LouieB
Wendy
Yeah, I have no problem with the world in general dismissing my bands. You must not have been trying to get tix for shows on the upcoming east coast tour, or your identity would be hurting right about now. Selling out so fast, like nothing I've seen in my experience with Wilco. And craploads of tickets at the resellers and scalpers, hundreds of dollars per ticket in many instances. Do you think it's only because they called it "An evening with Wilco" ??? I couldn't get even one single ticket to come into my queue on this onsale day - not even a nosebleed seat! http://www.dpacnc.com/default.asp?dpac=51&objId=69 Getting tickets for this tour is expensive. This tour sold out to fans quickly but seats appear all over the broker sites. So I hope when Wilco come near where you live things are different for you! I really do! Because this is the worst I've ever seen it. So I'm guessing it's not the teenagers who are buying up tickets and selling them on ebay then. Or maybe it is...you beat me to it! Sir Stewart
Wow, Wilco's coming to Boston!
Wendy
So does this mention in the Onion translate into ticket sales???? LouieBNo, sorry Lou. You've just been caught between 2 angry girls who got shut out for 1 ticket for Durham. We're responding to rwilson who apparently doesn't have any problems getting tickets and are just generally pissed off that that's not our reality.
Winston Legthigh
This tour sold out to some fans and a lot of speculators quickly but which is why seats appear all over the broker sites. Fixed.
Doug C
I hear ya, Wendy. I was shut out for Durham also. I am not complaining though since I was fortunate enough to get tickets for Clearwater and Atlanta. I, too, have seen nothing like these sellouts. I wouldn't mind missing out on shows IF there weren't hundreds (thousands? Ha!) of tickets available at outrageous markups from scalpers. Having Wilco sell out shows quickly is wonderful and I'd deal with it just fine if they were 'legit'. Missing out to Wilco fans is tolerable. Missing out to entrepreneurs is not. Grr. Wendy
Fixed.Yes, this is a more accurate statement. Thanks. I need an editor.
Winston Legthigh
Yes, this is a more accurate statement. Thanks. I need an editor.I hate scalpers. They should just hold all tickets at will call, and the purchaser should have to show ID. That obviously doesn't work with non-card-holding fans, or for people who wish to give tix as a gift (or people who can't make the show, and offer them up at last second for face value). But it certainly takes care of people whose only interest is to drive up the price and create artificial demand and reap the profit.
watch me fall
you beat me to it! hee! I don't know if Will Call helps or not. My Richmond tix are will call (only option I was given) but I've still seen tix for that show on Ebay. Not as many as the other shows, but still a few. I hear ya, Wendy. I was shut out for Durham also. I am not complaining though since I was fortunate enough to get tickets for Clearwater and Atlanta. I, too, have seen nothing like these sellouts. There is a 'store' on Ebay called Ticket Boat asking for $550 for 2 Durham tickets, Row K I think. Outrageous.
LouieB
No, sorry Lou. You've just been caught between 2 angry girls who got shut out for 1 ticket for Durham. We're responding to rwilson who apparently doesn't have any problems getting tickets and are just generally pissed off that that's not our reality. Actually I was kidding about this too. Between fans complaining about not being able to get tickets and the Onion dissing Wilco, it wasn't all that funny I guess. Who cares who likes Wilco and who doesn't. Wilco has certainly hit the big time. I keep expecting their popularity to slack a bit, but so far it hasn't. I guess the days of Wilco being a cult band are gone forever. This is good for the band members and their management, but less so for the fans. LouieB
rwilson580
I couldn't get even one single ticket to come into my queue on this onsale day - not even a nosebleed seat! >> I thought I might get some feedback on that. Yeah, I know people had problems this time, but it wasn't an issue for the shows we targeted. I'm worried it will be a problem the next time they pass through. That's why I'm sending positive psychic energy out to all the non-fans out there. You guys rule!
