Just saw long-time Canadian band Blue Rodeo in Montreal last night. They have to be Canada's best musical secret. Sort of sound like the Jayhawks but less melancholy. Jim Cuddy has a sweet melodic voice. Currently listening to their new double album, The Things We Left behind. Particularly like Waiting for the World, Candice, Arizona Dust, And When You Wake Up, One More Night.

I last saw them in September, fantastic show. The new album is amazing indeed. This band just keeps doing what they do, writing beautiful songs (ballads and rockers) and performing for their loyal fans...largely in Canada. I hope they never quit. Cuddy and Keelor are such a great songwriting team, and the whole band is so tight.

BTW, for those who may not know- Bob Egan (former Wilco member) has been part of BR for 9-10 years now. :thumbup

From the "One Degree of Separation" section of the Blue Rodeo website:

http://www.bluerodeo.com/music/associates/oneDegree.aspx?PostID=347661&artist=Wilco

Bob Egan (lap pedal and steel guitarist for Blue Rodeo) played with Wilco. He can be heard on various tracks, such as "Dreamer in my Dreams", "Far, Far Away", "The Unwelcome Guest", "She Came Along to Me", "One by One" and many others.

Jeff Tweedy and Jay Bennett of Wilco can be heard on Jim Cuddy's solo effort All in Time on "I'll Make Believe It's You".

"Being There was definitely one of the inspirations for this album and Jeff and Jay ending up on the album was just one of those perfect coincidences. Who would have thought that these two guys, tired from a full day of promoting their own album, would allow themselves to get dragged out to a studio to record with a stranger?" - Jim Cuddy

I flew into Hamilton on the 12th to see Blue Rodeo @ Hamilton Place (where Wilco had played a few weeks earlier.) The online fan club was presenting a 25th anniversary "album" after the show and I was lucky enough to go backstage to witness the presentation. Met Jim who joked whether it was OK for me to be wearing a Wilco shirt to a BR concert (I was wearing the one in my avatar.) I told him his band was in good company, knowing that he's a Wilco fan (and even had Jeff and Jay record a song on his first solo record.) Really wanted to meet Bob Egan, however, he wasn't around (either were Keelor or Boguski.)
