A freaking great show!

I've already posted the clip somewhere on VC of Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Bongwater, and Bob Weir playing a Roky Erickson song. But here's another great performance:

I couldn't find the show at Amazon. Does anyone know if it's available at all? I would love to have some of those old shows on DVD. So great.

This show was absolutely amazing. Possibly the most adventurous programming ever to air on network tv. Here's a link that lists all the musical guests from Night Music (originally known as Sunday Night):

Here's a performance that I remember fondly, yet I've never heard anything from this band since:

I still have a few episodes of this show rotting away on VHS.

It's funny to see a keytar in that video. Those things went from cutting edge technology to goofiest instrument ever in about three months.

And somehow today, there are dozens of "hip" bands that are using them again.

For the life of me, I don't remember this show. Which is a bummer, because the lineup's looked great.

PopTodd - This was aired in the Chicagoland area?

I don't know about Chicago, but it came on at midnight or one a.m. on Sunday. An esay to overlook timeslot. I don't recall ever seeing any TV commercials or other high profile promotion for the show. I have no idea how I found out about it...probably purely by accident, or maybe an ad in a music magazine.

I'll bet a show like this would get 100 (if not 1,000) times more viewers today than it did in the '80s.

Yup.

That's where I grew up and where I live.

It was on late on Sunday nights, though. Which could explain why you missed it... or never even heard of it.

This was a pretty interesting lineup for that evening:

Show 207

The Pixies

Sun Ra

Syd Straw

Arthur Baker

Al Green

Sister Carol

Yeah, I was in high school during the time it aired. Like I good catholic school kid, I must have already been in bed.

Damn school. :P

Though I must admit, my musical palate was not as varied back than. Hopefully they will put it out on DVD someday.

This was quite possibly the coolest thing to ever air on broadcast TV.

Quite possibly.

But then, I always thought that this was pretty freaking amazing, too: Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Bongwater, and Bob Weir playing a Roky Erickson song.

(Yeah, I think that I've posted this clip before, but it is called for a re-post in this circumstance.)

It was shown nationwide on NBC... Lorne Michaels was behind it. (It might have even been filmed on the SNL set - I recall that it had the same look)

I watched it occasionally -- I wasn't as open to different types of music back then and the lineups were usually too eclectic for my taste.

I do remember being first exposed to the Pixies thanks to that show... and the clip is on YT!

I totally remember this show and used to look forward to it every week (in Colorado). For the life of me though my brain remembers Jools Holland having something to do with it. Maybe I'm mixing the two shows in my pea brain but to me they feel like the same show. This is one that sticks out in my mind for some reason:

Wow, that was really cool. Looks like they put out one CD in 1994 which is currently going for 98.48 new on Amazon.
